The Bride

Ananya

She's a Sylheti girl born and raised in Guwahati, the gateway to North-East India. Making way through Delhi University and Jamia, via New York, she finally reached Riverside - a town in Southern California. Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, she juggles her time between the two coasts with research and teaching. She's passionate about her work - colliding protons, and hopes to cure cancer with this technology. She tells the world that she loves traveling, but only her best friends know that she's a sloth bear. Always found humming a tune or two, perseverance and cognition are her superpowers.

The Groom

Arkadeep

He’s a Khaati Bangali with ancestral origin in rural Bardhaman, the heart of West Bengal. Born in Calcutta, he was raised on a staple diet of football and music. After college at Jadavpur University, he finally arrived at Georgia to get his PhD and then, a PostDoc from Berkeley. He currently builds semiconductor chips in the Silicon Valley. On a regular weekend, you will find him either biking through the hills of Bay Area, or building the sets of yet another Indian theatre production. A true ENFP at heart, he campaigns for the betterment of education, environment, and social causes in India.

How They Met

Stanford plays Cupid

They were both busy with their respective careers, with the hope that someday they would meet someone who would ignite their lives and share their joys and sorrows. Then one fine day, their parents connected over shaadi dot com and their mutual devotion for Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa. Herein started the series of texts, calls and sharing memes. On the occasion of Bengali New Year’s , April 15th of 2023, Ananya drove 500 miles up North with her best friend and roommate to see Arkadeep in person. They had lunch at Zareen’s, a restaurant Arkadeep curated carefully keeping in mind Ananya’s love for Biryani (minus the aloo). In the evening, they walked through the corridors of Stanford, discussing everything about life and discovering their similarities, possibly deciding on forever.

The Proposal

When meteors showered their blessings

The Perseids meteor shower occurs every year, and peaks during the summer. If you go to a dark sky area for stargazing, you’d be able to see a meteor zooming through the sky every 4-5 seconds. In 2023, this happened in the month of August. On the 13th, Ananya took Arkadeep to Joshua Tree National Park to see the meteor shower. And it was there, under the dark sky with hundreds of meteors falling, that she brought out the ring and popped the question. He blushed and cried, and, of course, said yes!
