What is a sangeet?What is a sangeet?

A sangeet is a vibrant and joyous pre-wedding ceremony in Indian culture, often described as the "musical night" or "song ceremony." It's a time for families and friends to come together, celebrate, and showcase their talents through music and dance. So pretty much, it is a "reception" before the reception.

Up to you! There will be Indian wedding songs performed at the beginning by and for the family. After the songs, it will become a very casual event. A place to hang out the day before with food, henna, and other activities.

What should I expect during the ceremony & cocktail hour?What should I expect during the ceremony & cocktail hour?

We are going to be doing a traditional Indian ceremony! The ceremony will take about an hour, followed by a 90-minute cocktail "hour." To make the most of this time, we've arranged for appetizers, drinks, and fun activities! We will utilize this time to take photos with all of you. There will also be a few spots to escape the noise if you need some peace and quiet.

How should I get to the venue?How should I get to the venue?

Answer

The venue is located just a mile away from downtown KC. If you are staying in one of the hotels in that area, city/metro bus 101, 9, or 11 can drop you off very close to the venue. There will be parking at The Oliver Building, but limited. Carpool/rideshare as much as possible! If you are driving, enter the gravel lot from 13th street, just east of the building.

Sangeet - some pre-made food will be provided. Feel free to bring you own food for yourself or to share! Reception - Indian buffet. There will be labeled gluten free and dairy free options. Make sure to mark on your RSVP if there are any dietary restrictions and we will make sure to accommodate them!
