FLORENCE (FLR)

Florence Airport is the closest airport to Certaldo, about 50 minutes by car. The Florence airport is extremely small (smaller than T.F. Green) and easy to navigate. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Boston but there are plenty of easy connecting flight options. From the Florence airport you can either rent a car, take a taxi, hire a private car service, or take a train to Certaldo. Read further for more details on each option.

Rome is the only airport in Italy with direct flights from Boston. The airport is about a 3 hour car ride to Certaldo. To get to Certaldo from Rome you can either rent a car, hire a private car service, or take a train. Read further for details on each option.

Rental Car

Car Rentals

We strongly recommend renting a car as it is the easiest way to travel around Tuscany since there are no taxi services in the area. If you are planning on renting a car Italy requires you to obtain an International Driving Permit before your trip. This can easily be done through AAA using this link: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html There are a lot of speed cameras in Tuscany and the speed limits can change drastically from road to road so keep an eye out and always use navigation. Some roads are windy and there are bikers so drive carefully. We recommend renting a car in either Florence or Rome, depending on where you are flying into. Both airports have car rental centers located at them with companies like Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Enterprise, Maggiore, and more. We highly recommend booking in advance through sites like Rentalcars.com, Expedia, Kayak, DiscoverCars, or directly through the specific car provider's website. FLORENCE The nearby car rental center is accessible via a free shuttle just outside the terminal. ROME The car rental center (Autonoleggi) is located in Tower 2, a short walk from Terminals 1 and 3.

Train

Certaldo Train Station

There is a train station located in Certaldo but the station is a small local stop with limited taxi availability. Therefore, we do not recommend traveling to Certaldo via train unless you have arranged pickup from the train station in advance. Read further for car service recommendations. ARRIVAL FROM FLORENCE If you are arriving from Florence, take a regional train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station (SMN) to Certaldo — the ride takes about 50–60 minutes and trains run frequently throughout the day. If you are planning on catching the train after landing at the Florence Airport, there is a tram to the train station with pickup directly from the airport that runs every 5-10 minutes. ARRIVAL FROM ROME Take a regular speed train (3 hours) or a high-speed train (1.5 hours) from Roma Termini to Santa Maria Novella Train Station in Florence (about 1.5 hours), then transfer to the regional line to Certaldo. The ride from Florence to Certaldo is 50-60 minutes. TRAIN TICKETS Train tickets can be purchased at the station, at self-service kiosks, or online in advance at trenitalia.com. We recommend booking in advance, especially the high-speed train.

A charming country farmhouse located in the Tuscan hills. Comfortable rooms and apartments decorated in classic Tuscan style. We personally visited here and recommend it as a place to stay during the wedding weekend. It is only a 15 minute drive to the wedding venue. Breakfast is served daily and dinner is usually available. Transportation will be provided on the wedding day to and from the venue for guests staying at Il Rosolaccio.
