FAQs

Hi everyone! We know you probably have a lot of questions about our mountain forest venue in the middle of the Oregon Cascades. We will do our best to address questions that you may have, but if there is something you would like to know that you cannot find on the website, please feel free to reach out to Apollonia Goeckner, apollonia157@gmail.com
Question

Are young children or minors (16 and under) permitted to attend?

Answer

Please be mindful that each and every individual guest is responsible for their own safety at this event. Unfortunately due to venue policy, insurance requirements, and ordinances, we kindly request that our wedding celebration remain a mature environment due to potential safety hazards at the venue. Specifically, this means no minors aged 16 and under. The fast-flowing McKenzie River runs directly through the middle of the venue's property without fencing or barriers. This is especially a concern during the dark evening hours when little ones might easily slip away and go off exploring the magic of the forest. Be mindful that the closest medical facility is more than a 30-minute drive away, and emergency response times will also be slower than what is typically expected. All said, the venue is absolutely a safe space for everyone so long as each guest is actually capable of exercising their own judgment and awareness of their surroundings while navigating the venue grounds. All of our honored guests' safety is a top priority, and we feel this policy is the most responsible way to achieve this important goal. Your understanding and cooperation in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our guests is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support in making our special day memorable!

Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

Portland International Airport (PDX) and Eugene International Airport will be the best options. Either way, you will need to rent a car. PDX is a 2 hour and 45 minute drive to the venue, and Eugene is a 1 hour 4 minute drive to the venue. Usually, it is less expensive to fly into Portland, however sometimes there are good prices to Eugene on flights from O'Hare (for those of you flying from Chicago). July is a popular time to travel to Oregon, so be sure to get your tickets in advance.

Question

Is there somewhere to eat or get groceries near the wedding venue?

Answer

Yes there are 2 small restaurants near the venue, and one has a small general store. There are also a few small convenience stores and general stores along the way. We recommend grabbing groceries, snacks, beverages, or anything else you think you will need in Eugene or Springfield before you hit the mountains.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Usually July in Oregon is near the beginning of summer here, with high temperatures in the mid to high 70s and lows in the 50s. You will likely want to bring a jacket for the wedding reception. The usual weather for early July is also sunny days and clear skies with little rain. However, in the mountains there is always a possibility of rain, so be sure to pack a rain jacket/rain shell. The snow will be melting in the mountains, and depending on how much snowpack and how hot our weather has been, certain roads (like Highway 242 and forest roads at higher elevation) may still be inaccessible due to snow. That being said, please keep an eye on the weather before you head out- we have been known to have a heat wave or two in June or July.

Question

What is there to do in the area?

Answer

A lot! Please see our "Things to do" page, we have a number of recommendations for activities in the McKenzie Bridge area (we also have recommendations for around the state as well, if you are turning this trip into your vacation). If you plan on hiking, we recommend Bill Sullivan's 100 hikes series for great hand drawn maps and good tips, and Alltrails to look up conditions.

Question

How high in elevation will we be?

Answer

Not very high- only about 2,000 feet above sea level. However, if you are planning on going over to Bend or going up the Dee Wright Observatory, you will be at between 4,000-5,000 ft above sea level. Altitude sickness can set in as low as 5,000 ft for sensitive individuals, so please be aware of your health while you recreate at higher elevations.

Question

Are there any rules in Oregon we need to be aware of?

Answer

Yes! You can't pump your own gas here, unless it is posted. Just pull up to the pump and someone will help you. Also, there is no sales tax in Oregon.
