Halifax and Dartmouth are close and interconnected, so while our wedding is happening in Dartmouth, staying in Halifax is also a great option. To get to our venue by car from downtown Halifax, it'll only take you about 10-15 depending on traffic. If you take the ferry (a charming 8 minute ride across Halifax harbor) from Halifax to Dartmouth, our venue is a 10 minute straight-shot walk from the Dartmouth ferry terminal. Flight
Halifax has one airport, and it's about 30-40 minutes away from the main metropolitan area. The great part is, there's really never any traffic on the highway out there. If you’re flying from California, a tip: you’ll transfer through either Toronto or Montreal. Leave AT LEAST 1.5 hours for a transfer through Toronto, since it’s a big airport and you’ve got to go through security again. If you’re flying from New York: there are direct flights from Newark and Laguardia. Look here to see if you have the good fortune to have a direct flight from your US city: https://halifaxstanfield.ca/flights/non-stop/#US-nonstop-flights
Travel Note
We often use Driver Dave's to get to and from the airport--the guys are friendly and reliable. They pick you up from the airport and bring you right to wherever you're staying, and can do the same for your return to the airport. It's cheaper the more people in the shuttle—groups of three or more $23 per person, pairs for $30 per person, and individuals for $44 (a taxi could run you about about $60+ from the airport).
Travel Note
The public transit bus option from the airport to Halifax or Dartmouth costs $4.75. You need exact change if you buy a ticket on the bus, or you can buy a ticket from the airport.
