How to get to Hydra? Hydra takes an extra "step" to get to. Hydra Greece does not have an airport, and is only accessible by flying into Athens and taking the ferry. Be sure to follow all the steps below to get to the island. Please be aware of the time needed to get from the airport to ferry. It may make sense to stay in Athens a day before traveling to Hydra. PLEASE NOTE: there are no cars on the island, once you arrive to the island, you'll have to use the mules to carry your luggage and you'll have to use your legs to get around.

Flight

Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos"

If traveling directly to Hydra after landing, you will need to take a Taxi or Metro to Piraeus harbor to catch the ferry. If staying in Athens for the day, you can take a Taxi or Metro to your destination. Be mindful to plan enough time the next day to get to the ferry harbor.

Travel Note

Taxi or Metro

To get to the ferry (hydrafoil) to Hydra, you’ll first need to make your way to the port of Piraeus in Athens. The easiest way to get there is by taking a taxi or using the Athens metro system. Taxi: You can prebook a taxi through this link: https://www.thegreektaxi.com/ or catch one outside of the airport. Taxis are located between Exits 2 &3. Taxi's are about 60 Euros ($62.79). Metro: The metro line 1 (Green Line) takes you directly to the Piraeus station. The metro leaves from the airport station every 30 minutes. It takes about 50 minutes to arrive at Piraeus station from the airport. The station is a few blocks from the boats departure gate. Learn more about the Metro here: https://www.athensairportbus.com/en/metro/airportticket.html
