Cyril E. King Airport (STT)
St. Thomas is a US territory - No passport needed! A passport is also not necessary in order to visit St. John. If you’re thinking about exploring the British Virgin Islands though, bring your passport along.
Strongly consider staying on the East End of St. Thomas. There are some hotel recommendations listed on the Travel and Accommodations page.
Sure! We want you to look nice, but don’t overdo it - No tuxedos, please! Welcome Dinner: For men, resort casual attire typically includes lightweight pants or shorts, and a polo or collared shirt. Ties aren’t necessary. Women’s resort casual attire may include sundresses, or skirts or shorts paired with nice blouses or tops. Wedding: Options for men can include a nice polo or button-down shirt, and slacks or chinos. A nice pair of shorts will also do! (We know it will be hot) Ties aren’t necessary. Flowy maxi and midi dresses would be suitable for women, but jumpsuits and dressy separates are also appropriate choices.
Children under the age of 8 will not be permitted. If you want to bring children under the age of 8 on your vacation with you, you’re more than welcome to, but someone will have to stay behind with them and not attend the wedding, or you will have to arrange nanny services: https://caribbeannannyservices.com
You will notice the lack of a registry page on this wedding website, and that’s intentional. Do not feel obligated whatsoever to get a wedding gift. Since this is a destination wedding, it’s understood that guests will already be spending a good chunk of change just to attend the wedding! Your attendance is the best gift of all. If you absolutely insist on giving a gift, please consider monetary gifts only such as gift cards, cash, or a check.
It’s recommended that you get to the island a day or two before the wedding. Kayla and John will be in St. Thomas until 6/12/24. Feel free to make your own vacation! Stay as many or as few days as you’d like.
It’s a US territory, so cash (USD) is accepted everywhere. Credit cards are also accepted. Visa or Mastercard are recommended. Discover may also be used. American Express may or may not be accepted.
There are no Ubers or Lyfts in the USVI. There are many taxis on the island to help you get where you’d like to go. If you’d like to rent a car, there are a few rental agencies right near the airport. You can reserve your rental online, and pick it up after you’ve arrived at the airport. *IMPORTANT* - Please take note that people drive on the LEFT side of the road, and some roads are steep and/or narrow. If you don’t feel comfortable with driving in these conditions, please don’t rent a car or feel free to research more about this prior to booking a rental.
Shared taxis are readily available at the airport, most hotels, beaches, while you’re out on the town, or at restaurants. If you’d like to arrange a taxi ride or luxury car services, please access the link below. There are also additional taxi FAQs on that page, and a link to the taxi rate tables: https://www.vinow.com/stthomas/getting_around_stt/taxi_stt/ *IMPORTANT* - Most taxis only accept cash. If you plan on relying heavily on taxis to get around, bring a good amount of small denominations (think ones, fives, and tens). The rates are PER PERSON, so if you look at the rate table and it notes $6, but there are 2 in your group, it will be $12. The taxi drivers are lovely people - make sure you tip them a dollar or two! And if you find one you really like, they’ll be happy to give you their personal number so you can call them for a ride.
Kayla has Verizon and John has AT&T, and both had service in most places. Some areas might be spotty for service. Any hotels will have wifi available. If you’re concerned about your cell phone provider, you can do some online research to see what to expect.
Unfortunately, you may not. Kayla and John signed a contract to rent Villa Serenita, and only people staying at the villa are allowed on the property, with the exception of the wedding day when all guests are welcome. They risk losing a hefty security deposit and even getting asked to leave if this rule is broken, so they appreciate your understanding. Don’t worry though, everyone can get together elsewhere during our stay on the island!
Some beaches are free, and others charge a small fee to enter. Some also have food and beverages available on-site, while others do not. With about 40 beaches on St. Thomas, there are lots of options, and each one of them is beautiful. Visit the link below to learn more about the top 5: https://visitstthomas.com/beach_guide.html A quick Google search will allow you to look up additional beaches. If you’d like to take a trip to St. John, there are even more beautiful beaches to read up on!
The weather hovers around 75-85 degrees year-round, but because we’re there in a summer month, assume it will be HOT. This allows you to pack light clothes for your trip, and absolutely don’t forget your swimsuit! Kayla found that it was helpful to have a light sweatshirt in case it gets rainy/cooler at night. Definitely consider packing sunscreen, or purchasing some on the island to protect your skin. *IMPORTANT NOTE* - It’s the law in the USVI to use only non-nano mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (reef safe sunscreen) in order to protect the coral and marine life.
