Question

What’s the elevation at the wedding venue?

Answer

The wedding will be held at The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird, which sits at an elevation of 8,600 feet above sea level.

Question

Alcohol in Utah

Answer

Utah has a few unique alcohol laws. If you plan to enjoy a drink at the wedding or at a restaurant/bar, please remember to bring a valid ID—Utah law requires everyone to show ID to be served alcohol, whether you’re 21 or 85. If you’re visiting and planning to purchase alcohol, beer over 5% ABV, wine, and liquor are only sold at Utah State Liquor Stores. Grocery and convenience stores only sell beer up to 5% ABV

Question

How does the elevation at Snowbird compare to nearby areas?

Answer

For reference, Sandy, Utah—the nearest city at the base of the canyon—is about 4,450 feet above sea level, so you’ll be gaining over 4,000 feet in elevation as you drive up the mountain.

Question

Will I feel the elevation change?

Answer

Some guests may notice mild effects from the higher altitude, such as lightheadedness, fatigue, or shortness of breath—especially if you’re coming from a lower elevation. Most people adjust quickly within a day or two.

Question

How can I prepare for the altitude?

Answer

Hydrate well – Start drinking plenty of water before you arrive and continue throughout your stay. Add electrolytes – Consider bringing electrolyte packets to help your body retain fluids and balance minerals (altitude can dehydrate you more quickly than you might expect). Take it easy at first – Give yourself time to acclimate, especially if you’re arriving from sea level. Avoid strenuous activity or long hikes the first day. Eat light, balanced meals – High altitude can affect appetite and digestion, so smaller, more frequent meals can help you feel your best. Go easy on alcohol and caffeine – Both can increase dehydration and amplify altitude effects. Rest if you feel lightheaded or tired – A short break, extra water, or some electrolytes usually do the trick. Moisturize and use sunscreen – The air is dry and the sun’s rays are stronger at high elevation.

Question

Are pets allowed?

Answer

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in Little Cottonwood Canyon or at Snowbird Resort due to Salt Lake City’s protected watershed area. This regulation helps preserve the pristine mountain water supply for the region. We kindly ask guests to make arrangements for their pets to stay at home or with a trusted sitter during the wedding weekend.

Question

What’s the weather like at Snowbird?

Answer

June in the mountains is beautiful! At 8,600 feet, Snowbird enjoys sunny days, cool evenings, and fresh mountain air. Daytime highs are typically in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F, while evenings can drop to the 40s°F, especially after sunset. We recommend bringing layers—a light jacket or wrap is perfect for cooler mountain evenings.

Question

Why is there so much cement at the Cliff Lodge?

Answer

The Cliff Lodge was built in the 1970s, when alpine architecture often used concrete to create strong, durable buildings that could withstand heavy mountain snow, extreme weather, and avalanche conditions. The concrete structure also helps anchor the building into the steep mountainside and provides stability in the rugged terrain of Little Cottonwood Canyon. While the exterior may look bold, the design was chosen to ensure the lodge could safely handle the challenging mountain environment for decades to come.
