Flight

Flights

The only airport to fly into is Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA). Please keep this in mind when booking flights! Other airports are typically located on different islands. Also, Uber is very unreliable past 10pm! If you are not planning on renting a car (we suggest TURO) we recommend flying in earlier in the day.

Travel Note

Where should I stay?

We will be getting married on a Sunday at a beautiful property in Kealakekua, located on the Big Island of Hawaii. This unique island, much different from what people typically imagine Hawaii being, is home to primarily volcanic beaches and lots of jungle. Where you’ll want to stay totally depends on what you want out of your trip! … “We’re flying to Hawaii… Let’s make a total vacation out of this!” We recommend staying at a resort like Hapuna or Waikoloa. These resorts have it all- white sand beaches, shopping, restaurants, etc. and are located about 40-50 minutes from Kailua-Kona. We also recommend island hopping either before or after the wedding if you can swing it! Oahu is Hawaiian paradise, and if you are wanting the classic Hawaiian experience, that is the place to have it! “Affordable is my goal… I never liked the beach anyways!” We totally understand the times we’re in and so appreciate everyone who is willing to join our special day. Kailua-Kona is the closest town to the wedding venue and is very touristy! With tons of restaurants, nearby farmers markets, and smaller white sand beaches within driving distance, this will be the place for you! There are lots of hotels and AirBnB’s around Kona. If you’re traveling in a big group, an AirBnB may be the way to go! … Hawaii is hot in July! Because the island is made up of multiple volcanoes, we live on an incline. If you love the heat and want to feel like you’re in the tropics, we recommend staying closer to the coast. The further inland you go, the cooler it gets due to higher elevation (15-20 minutes inland is typically very comfortable. You’ll need a sweatshirt at night!).
