I met Luis at a swim meet at Rice University! I was instantly smitten when our eyes met. We had a connection that could not be denied. We exchanged phone numbers and the rest is history. When i think about those first months, one thing that really stands out in my mind is time. 5 hours with him always felt like 5 minutes. It was never enough. I did not want to sleep because i wanted to talk and spend every waking moment learning about this amazing human, this creature unlike any other i had ever encountered. After only a few short months of this whirlwind, only in your dreams kind of summer love, he proposed to me on a tiny island in Puerto Rico. Soon after, we had a civil wedding. Ever since, we have imagined all the wonderful potential places we could have our dream wedding. We chose Granada because after visiting together one summer, we fell instantly in love. There was a certain magic in the air. I chalked it up to the symbolic meaning of a granada (fertile ground)and he swore it was the great history of this magical city. Whatever it was, it made sense to us and symbolically it perfectly portrayed Luis and I and our ever growing love for one another. After 6 years of bliss, a beautiful blended family of 8 with two additions of our own, it is finally happening, and we can’t hardly wait to share with all of our loved ones!!
In the beginning, there was the gaze... I mean, a gaze... I encountered Angela’s eyes before I met Angela. She encountered my eyes, before she met me. It was a second that brought us here; an instant that would transform our lives. She quickly jumped into the pool. She cruised through the water with grace. I don’t remember if she won or not. I was in a trance. I was curious and eager to know who she was. I waited and, hiding my ignorance about all-things-sport, I opened with who knows what silly comment. I know we chatted some. I know that day we felt like we had known each other for years.
