The western/Grand Lake entrance to RMNP is about 45 minutes from Winter Park. Crowds should be lower at this time of year. Drive Trail Ridge Road, plan a hike, leaf-peep, or look for the wildlife (Elk, bighorn sheep, moose, etc). **Please double check the website to see if reservations are required for entry**
Grand Lake, CO is about 40 minutes from Winter Park/Fraser. Known as the "Western Gateway" to Rocky Mountain National Park. At over 8000 feet, Grand Lake is the state's largest natural lake. Stroll down the historic boardwalk with over 60 shops, restaurants, and galleries, play a round of golf amid the gorgeous alpine landscape, or go horseback riding.

Winter Park is not just a ski town. There's a ton to do in the valley in the summer and fall, here's a few ideas to get you started: At the resort: Mini golf, alpine slide, hikes (test your mettle on the Ute trail climbing up the gondola line), a stroll by the river in the Experimental Forest, a fun day or afternoon at YMCA of the Rockies or the Fraser Valley Recreation Center.
