Our hotel is 5 miles from the Tulum Ruins. They are the ruins of a walled, ancient Mayan city, located on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. As you all know, we love to visit remnants of ancient civilizations. Proximity to Chichen Itza, Tulum ruins, mystical cenotes, and the general beauty and history of the area was integral in our choice to get married in this part of Mexico.
The Riviera Maya is known for their cenotes, natural limestone sinkholes. Grand Cenote has 140 square meter for swimming, there is one big cave, a cavern and 100 square of wooden platforms where you can walk, chill with the nature. Cenotes are natural wonders, they are so many of them big and small throughout the Yucatan.
Likely the most famous Mayan ruins and tourist attraction in this area. These ruins are about 2 hours away from where we will be. At its peak, Chichen Itza was the most populous Mayan city in the entire Yucatan Peninsula. Its ruins reflect a great civilization filled with architectural marvels and ancient secrets. Chichen Itza is also home to several cenotes.
Nestled between two crystal lakes about 1.5 hours from Tulum, the Coba ruins are a great option especially if you have visited the Yucatan before. Far less excavated, older, and less crowded than Tulum or Chichen Itza, Coba has many unique highlights. For example, you can still climb 130 steep steps up the highest Mayan temple pyramid in Mexico at Coba. You’ll see amazing jungle views from the top! Many of the buildings are still covered by the dense jungle and Coba features Mayan carvings throughout the site.
