Travel Note
South Tyrol is known for its hospitality with a wide variety from simple and rustic to luxurious and elegant and an amazing spa and food culture. You won't find many corporate brands, most are smaller, and family-run, the best way to book is nearly always directly. For platforms, we primarily used Booking.com over Airbnb here; Google Maps is also great for finding places. These platforms may not show all availability as many establishments you can only request to book via their website or email.
Flight
The closest airports (in order) are Venice (VCE), Verona (VRN), Innsbruck (INN), Milan (MXP/LIN) and Munich (MUC). From any of these, you can either rent a car and drive directly to the Dolomites (about 2–4.5 hours depending on the airport), or take a train to a closer city and rent a car from there.
Rental Car
While the area has excellent public transit options, we like having a rental car while in the Dolomites to explore it properly. We recommend picking up your rental car near the airport or in a larger city. NOTE: Italy requires International Driving Permits (IDP). You can pick yours up at any AAA with your drivers license and a photo.
Train
The train system in Italy is easy, fast, reliable, and affordable. The closest major train station and transit hub to the wedding is Bolzano a ~45 minute drive away. Train tickets, particularly for longer trips, are significantly cheaper when booked further in advance.
Travel Note
Please be advised that the Maratona Bike Race is taking place on Sunday following the wedding, July 5th. Many of the mountain pass roads will be closed for the race so plan your travel accordingly.
