We first met four years ago on what we now fondly call “Lake Day,” over Labor Day weekend. At the time, we were both fairly new to a group of friends from church who had planned a fun day out by the water. By pure chance, we ended up awkwardly squished together in the trunk of a friend’s jeep—despite having just met! On the drive back, we carpooled together and spent the time in conversation, getting to know each other. What started as a simple day at the lake quickly turned into the beginning of a special friendship. Four years later—after countless memories, group hangs, not-a-date deep convos over ice cream, and denying feelings—Andrew showed up at my door completely unannounced, holding a bouquet of roses and asking me out on our first official date. And the rest, as they say, is history.

While I was in Long Beach for a friend’s baby shower—what I thought was just a fun girls’ weekend with my best friend Lisa—Andrew clearly had something else in mind. On our last day, Lisa suggested we go to Laguna for a cute girls brunch, in a timely manner of course because "we wanted to beat the brunch crowd". I (as usual) suggested we grab coffee first and take a walk on the beach before heading out. Little did I know, I was literally walking myself right into my engagement. Completely oblivious, I kept asking Lisa why we were walking down toward the sand instead of staying on the path. She just insisted there was a “hidden trail” she knew about. A few moments later, I turned the corner—and there was Andrew, waiting for me on the beach where I said Yes! We spent the rest of the day celebrating with a beautiful brunch overlooking the ocean with my best friends that helped pull it all off and calling all our family and friends on the drive back to Arizona to share the exciting news.
