Beaches and Parties
Located only a couple of hours by car from Udupi (wedding destination), the state of Goa is infamous for its beaches and liberal culture. It’s also a good place to satisfy any beef cravings you may get during your time in India.
Mumbai (Bombay)
Sam's Hometown
This is the financial capital of India, but also a great place to eat and drink. There are a lot of museums and art galleries, Victorian architecture, and a little bit of the stereotypical chaos that India is known for.
Kerala
Houseboats and Fresh Seafood
Kerala is another of the easier places to travel within India as it has the highest literacy rate in the country so a lot of people speak English and there’s a more liberal attitude there. It’s on the coast so there’s terrific seafood curries. We loved staying in Fort Kochi during our trip and taking a boat through the backwaters.
Agra
The Taj Mahal
If seeing the Taj Mahal is on your bucket list then you’ll have to pass through Delhi to get to Agra a couple hours drive away. Booking a tour is your best bet in order to arrange a drive, food, and hotel on top of learning about the monument itself (which is a really cool story).
Rajasthan
Palaces and Elephants
The history, architecture, and art are unparalleled here. This is the state where the Indian royalty lived for generations in the colourful cities Jaipor (pink), Jodhpur (blue), Udaipur (White), and Jaisalmer (gold). There are plenty of lakes and deserts depending on where you are in the state. It’s also known for delicious food, traffic jams started by cows, and palaces. Just a warning - it’s worth visiting and one of the most popular destinations in India but it;s also one of the most chaotic places in the world.
