Thankfully, local regulations allow us to have our wedding without spacing or guest restrictions. Face masks may be required in certain spaces. To anticipate any possible requirements from local authorities and businesses and to keep all guests safe, we request that all guests complete a course of COVID-19 vaccination prior to attending the wedding. We also strongly recommend bringing proof of vaccination, as many local businesses now require it for entry. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
The names on the invite indicate the number of seats we have reserved for your party, and we ask that you adhere to that number ("family" invites refer to all members of the household). Please contact Pat and Liz as soon as possible if you believe there has been a mistake.
While there may be some children at our wedding, we are working with a limited space and kindly ask that you stick to the number of guests indicated on your invitation.
Unfortunately, St. Matthew's bans receiving lines due to congestion issues on Rhode Island Avenue. The bride, groom and wedding party will adjourn for photos immediately following the ceremony, but we'll make sure to catch up with everyone at cocktail hour.
Our wedding is smack in the middle of downtown D.C., home to plenty of (mostly free) ways to entertain yourself for an hour and a half or so. Feel free to freshen up back at the hotel, or refer to our "Things To Do" page on the top menu for detailed suggestions on things to do. Or just go grab a drink somewhere. We won't judge.
Cocktail hour at the St. Regis' Astor Terrace is the only outdoor aspect of the wedding, so most plans will go ahead as scheduled regardless of weather. In the event of excessive heat, cold, or rain, the St. Regis lobby will be open to guests during cocktail hour.
This is *not* a black-tie-required wedding, but we would prefer folks dress on the more formal side of cocktail/wedding attire.
We won't be having any formal events beyond the wedding day, so don't worry about packing an extra blazer or set of heels. Average late October temperatures in D.C. reach the mid-60s during the day and decline to around 50 at night, so we expect most autumn-appropriate clothing to be comfortable. However, keep an eye on the forecast, as an early ice storm or even a heat wave is not totally out of the question. Regardless of weather, we recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, as many of D.C.'s sights are best seen on foot.
Yes. The wedding party will head off in a trolley for their photoshoot after the ceremony, and there will be a shuttle bus available to take guests to the St. Regis. The walk is under 10 minutes door-to-door, so we ask our younger guests to plan on leaving the first set of shuttle bus seats for less mobile friends and family. But the shuttle will make as many trips as is necessary, so nobody will need to walk in the rain.
