In retrospect, it all seems pretty transparent. A walk around the National Mall? Really, Pat? Didn't sprain any brain cells coming up with that one, huh? But as close friends of the couple will attest, a long walk on a mild Saturday afternoon is actually pretty normal for Liz and Pat. You don't have to feel as guilty about that third beer if you walked three miles to get to the bar, of course. So it turned out that on June 8, 2019, Liz strolled around the Tidal Basin with her boyfriend, blissfully unaware that the evening had anything more in store than the scenic route to a local rum distillery. Pat, meanwhile, had spent the previous few months planning the big reveal. Longtime friends Chris Bien (a professional photographer) and Lawson Ferguson (a person with an iPhone) awaited in the bushes near the Jefferson Memorial. A ring awaited in his wallet, its jewelry box far too clunky to hide in a pair of shorts. After taking a couple minutes in the Memorial to work up his nerve -- and work out the best way around a group of high schoolers -- Pat gave the signal, took a knee and popped the question. Despite a somewhat alarming knee-jerk reaction ("WHAT?? NO!?"), Liz asserts that she really meant yes, though we suspect she really just wanted an excuse to go to Le Diplomate. ******* Welcome to our wedding website!
