The local currency is the Euro (€). Credit and debit cards are generally accepted, but it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand, especially for small businesses, tavernas, and in rural areas. When withdrawing money, use official bank ATMs such as: Piraeus Bank (yellow) Alpha Bank (blue) Eurobank (blue & red) National Bank of Greece (green) Steer clear of generic "ATM" machines—particularly in tourist spots—as they tend to charge higher fees.
Greece uses Type C and Type F plugs, with a standard voltage of 230V at 50Hz. If you're coming from Canada, you'll need a plug adapter (US-to-EU), which you can easily find online or at electronics stores. Devices that produce heat—like curling irons or steamers—might also need a voltage converter. Most hotels provide hair dryers and irons, so you can travel lighter if you prefer.
