Mike picked Ana up in his dad's Honda, and the drive to Chickie's & Pete's in South Philly was filled with easy conversation. There were no awkward silences, no forced small talk, just two people who somehow made talking to each other feel effortless from the very beginning. Inside, the bar was packed. Eagles fans were yelling at the TVs, baskets of crab fries were everywhere, and the whole place was rowdy in the most Philly way possible. We grabbed a booth in the back, close enough to feel the energy of the game but far enough away to actually hear each other. We watched just enough football to pretend we were paying attention, but before long the game became background noise. The date was going so well that even Mikey, a certified football fanatic, stopped keeping his eyes on the screen. For anyone who knows him, that might be the biggest miracle of the entire story. The conversation took over. It was easy, genuine, unexpectedly deep, and somehow felt like we'd known each other much longer than a couple of hours. Then, in true Mikey fashion, Mike skipped right past playing it cool and asked Ana on a second date before the first one had even ended. Fortunately for him, confidence beat common sense that night, and Ana said yes. Years later, we still look back on our first date as one of our favorite memories. Even though we've traded South Philly for Arizona, we still find ways to honor where it all began. Anytime we're back home, a trip to Chickie's & Pete's is almost mandatory. We like to think the crab fries deserve at least a little credit for getting us here.
In April 2025, we decided to take a spontaneous road trip up the East Coast, trading desert views for salty air, charming coastal towns, and more lobster rolls than we'd like to admit. From scenic drives through towering pine forests to countless seafood stops, we made our way through Maine, exploring Portland before eventually arriving in the breathtaking town of Bar Harbor. We stayed at the iconic Bar Harbor Inn, embracing everything we imagined a New England getaway should be. Mornings started with coffee overlooking Frenchman Bay, afternoons were spent wandering quaint streets and visiting postcard-worthy lighthouses, and every day somehow ended with another lobster roll. The grand finale came on one especially chilly and incredibly windy evening at Acadia National Park. What Ana didn't know was that Mike had been carrying the engagement ring in his pocket the entire trip, leaving the ring box behind so nothing would give away the surprise. As we drove through Acadia that day, Ana couldn't stop saying, "This would be the perfect place to get engaged," completely unaware that she was unknowingly describing Mike's plan. Somehow, he managed to keep a straight face through every comment. As the sun began to set over the Atlantic, Mike led Ana to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. With sweeping ocean views, golden light stretching across the horizon, and wind strong enough to make us question every life choice that led us up there, he got down on one knee and asked the question that would change our lives forever. Fortunately, Ana said "yes" before the wind had a chance to blow either of us off the mountain. It was everything we could have dreamed of and the perfect beginning to our forever.
One of our very first trips together, while we were still navigating a long-distance relationship, was to Sedona. We had no idea at the time that this weekend getaway would become such a defining chapter in our story. From the moment we arrived, everything just felt different. We spent our days hiking through the glowing red rocks, chasing sunsets, finding hidden overlooks, and convincing ourselves we weren't tired after "just one more trail." Somewhere along the way, we even managed to wander off the trail and get a little lost. Thankfully, we found our way back, but in hindsight, it feels like getting lost was part of the magic, because it's where our love truly began to bloom. At night, we talked for hours under the stars, dreaming about the future without realizing we were already building it. Sedona became more than a destination. It became the place where we first realized this wasn't just a relationship. It was the beginning of forever. Ever since that trip, Sedona has held a special place in our hearts. There is simply nothing like a Sedona sunset, when the red rocks glow in shades of orange, pink, and crimson under the Arizona sky. It feels almost surreal, grounding, and unforgettable all at once. It only felt right that we return to the place where our story truly began to begin our next chapter as husband and wife. The breathtaking landscape, the peaceful energy, and the golden light make it feel like home in a way no other place ever has. We can't wait to share this magical place, and the story behind it, with all of you we love most.
