The best way to get to Buena Vista is by driving. You can rent through one of the classic airport car rental services, or use an app like Turo. We always encourage carpooling :) If you're looking for an alternative option, the CDOT Bustang Outrider bus runs from Union Station (downtown Denver) to Buena Vista and costs ~ $24. You can take the light rail directly from DIA to Union Station to catch the bus. You can find the routes, times, and buy tickets here: https://ridebustang.com/routes/crested-butte-denver/ It is also possible to hire a private shuttle with Epic Mountain Express that will bring you from DIA to Buena Vista. It can hold up to 12 passengers and would be $798 per direction of travel. If there is a group of you traveling together and are interested in this, please reach out and let An or Keaton know. We could also lump multiple groups together if timing works out.
Buena Vista is at 8,000 feet above sea level. If you have never been to altitude before, we recommend staying at least 1-2 nights in Denver or Boulder, which is at 5,400 feet, before going to the mountains to acclimate and minimize chances of altitude sickness. We recommend drinking a lot of water, starting even before your arrival to Colorado. Staying hydrated is the best way to avoid altitude sickness. We recommend bringing a water bottle and drinking 2-3x more than you do at lower elevation. Be careful when drinking alcohol (especially on your first day). The elevation and thin mountain air will get you intoxicated much sooner than you're used to at a lower elevation. Start slow and have a glass of water with or between drinks. Because of the higher altitude, you are more exposed to the sun as well. We recommend packing sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Your skin and eyes will feel dryer than usual. We recommend body and face lotion if your accommodations don't already provide it, along with chapstick.
Buena Vista is nestled between the Collegiate Peaks mountain range and the Arkansas River. It is known as the "Fourteener Region" because Chaffee County has more 14,000 foot mountain peaks than any other county in the state. Colorado is known for being one of the sunniest states, but these mountain ranges can make the weather unpredictable. The summer often can bring afternoon rain, but the good news is it never lasts very long (usually only minutes, and it's very rare that it rains all day). We expect it to *hopefully* be mostly sunny in the mid to high 70s during the day, and drop to the 40s-50s at night. We recommend packing a light jacket.
When you RSVP on our website, if given a +1, they will be listed under your name. While we wish we could invite everyone, we unfortunately cannot accommodate a +1 for every guest due to space constraints. Please reach out to An or Keaton directly with questions.
Our wedding is adults only, with the exception of An's nieces and nephews. If you'd like to bring the kids along on the trip to Colorado, please plan for childcare during the ceremony and reception.
Special thanks to An’s mom for the venue sketch! More of her beautiful work to come at the celebration!
