If there ever was a place to play in the outdoors, it's the San Juan Mountains of Durango and its environs. Everything from hiking to fishing to mountain biking to four-wheeling to river rafting, there's something for everyone. Here is a list of activities we recommend you take time to enjoy.

Vallecito Lake is located 18 miles from Durango and where we'll be getting hitched. Spend a couple of days there: rent a boat and play on the beautiful Vallecito Lake. Or take a drive around the lake and see the stunning landscapes of the San Juan Mountains.

Fly fishing on Los Pinos River. If you're into fly fishing, then you're going to love the section of the Pine River that passes right by where we're tying the knot. It's a world-class destination that is only available to family, friends, and select fly fishing guide services. It's catch and release. So let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in checking it out firsthand.

Go rafting on the beautiful Animas River right through Durango!!! Or get a floaty inter-tube, get in at 32nd Street and float to just near the high school. PFDs (and maybe a flask of bourbon) are recommended. You can also just hike along the trail across from the high school along the river and play in the river there. Sometimes there are a bunch of adults goofing off, sometimes it's full of kids, and sometimes you have it to yourself.

Go slidin' on one of those super fun alpine slides at Purgatory Resort. Also Purgatory is the site of the first World Mountain Bike race, and you can still ride the race trail, or take your bikes up the ski lift and feel the thrill of the downhill.

Visit Mesa Verde National Park

According to the NPS website: "Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from AD 600 to 1300. Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States." It is a place not to be missed!

Take a drive over to Ouray along the world famous Million Dollar Highway. Check out the Box Canyon Falls, Four wheel drive the world-class mountain roads, hike the Perimeter Trail, and finish the day in the hot springs. You'll see why Ouray truly is the Switzerland of America...and one of the best places in the world to ice climb during the winter months!

If you need some space to swim laps, laze in a hot pool, or do yoga and dance classes, climb, or play basket ball, this is the place to be. It also has hot showers. A day pass is not much- just $6.50 for adults, kids 3 and under are free. If you have kids you will want to take them here! If you are camping and happen to be in town, this is the place to shower! And the bridge across the river near here, is one of the best swimming holes.
