On Friday morning, the village of Seissan hosts its traditional foie gras market under the covered hall, where producers sell duck and goose products directly from farm to table. On Saturday morning, the market moves to the upper town of Auch, around the Cathedral and nearby streets. This is the liveliest market of the week, set among historic buildings and full of local flavours. A great way to spend the morning of the wedding. On Sunday, Gimont hosts a well-known market famous for foie gras and regional specialities, held in a beautiful town square.
Set across five gently wooded valleys, the Auch–Embats Golf Club sits in a peaceful setting that perfectly reflects the charm of the Gascon countryside. The 18-hole course offers plenty of variety, with a mix of longer holes and more technical shots, alongside ponds, stone bridges, waterfalls and a small Japanese garden. The clubhouse is worth a visit in its own right. From the terrace, you can enjoy lovely views towards the Pyrenees, and the restaurant serves relaxed, seasonal French cooking made with fresh produce.
The Vallée du Rioumajou is a stunning mountain valley in the Parc national des Pyrénées, near Saint-Lary-Soulan, and one of the region’s best-kept local secrets. Drive towards the ski resort of Saint-Lary and continue through the town, following the mountain road into breathtaking scenery of forests, open glades and glacial lakes. At the end of the road you’ll find a peaceful picnic area beside a river, perfect for a relaxed lunch surrounded by nature. In the summer months, the weather is warm and ideal for hiking, picnicking and soaking up the valley’s natural beauty, with plenty of lovely spots to stop along the way — just please don’t break a leg before our wedding.
The Save River, a calm and unspoilt tributary of the Garonne, is perfect for relaxed canoeing or kayaking, surrounded by peaceful wildlife and greenery. It’s ideal for beginners and anyone looking for a gentle, scenic experience. The nearby Gesse River offers a slightly more adventurous option, while still remaining accessible to most levels. A range of routes are available depending on how active you’d like to be, from easy paddles of 5, 10 or 15 km to longer or more technical routes of up to 24 km (water levels permitting), with durations ranging from 1.5 to 6 hours.
Domaine de Herrebouc is a small, independent winery producing organic and biodynamic wines, using grape varieties typical of Gascony and southwest France. The estate is open Monday to Saturday, 10am–6pm. Guided tours and tastings are led by the winemakers themselves and offer a relaxed insight into artisanal winemaking, from the vineyards and cellars to the finished wines. Two tour options are available by reservation: Discovery Visit (Saturday at 10.30am, 1 hour) – visit of the estate and cellars, followed by a guided tasting. “The Secrets of Wine” Tour (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday at 5pm, 1 hour) – winery visit with discussion and a guided tasting of six wines (approx. €10 per person). All visits end with a tasting of the estate’s wines, including limited editions and a natural sparkling wine made using the ancestral method. For tasting before buying, it’s best to book a personalised tasting slot at 11.30am or 4pm.
Château Arton is a lovely spot to learn more about Armagnac, the region’s famous brandy. Set in the rolling Gers countryside, this family-run vineyard is home to the Montal family, who grow their vines and produce wines and a rare Haut-Armagnac AOC. The estate shop is open every day except Sunday, with no reservation needed: 9am – 1pm 2pm – 6pm
