HHI: Things To Do

Whether you prefer to relax at the beach with the sand in your toes or explore the whole island there is plenty to do! Highlights include the beach, biking, tennis, golfing, fishing, shopping and ice cream! There is something for everyone. Be sure to hydrate properly, avoid chafing (Desert Dwellers beware), and watch for wildlife. Alligators are frequent sights. Jaymison has found out that local police do not take too kindly to wrassling them gators. The local low country seafood and cuisine is definitely worth a try for foodies.

There are 12 miles of beaches to explore along the "sole of the shoe" of the island. There are plenty of public beach accesses available. The beaches are "wide" meaning the tide will approach and retreat over 150 feet twice a day.

The Shipyard Plantation Golf Club boasts three 9-hole courses- The Brigadine, The Galleon and The Clipper. The Brigadine course has scenic waterways and is recommended by the Father-of-the-Bride who is a self-proclaimed "not-so-good golfer". Club rentals are available. Course fees apply.

The many waterways and lagoons on Hilton Head are thriving ecosystems for the active sportsman. Lagoons have a catch and release regulation. Saltwater fishing does require a permit ($11) available at dnr.sc.gov or 1-866-714-3611. Boats and captains are available for open water fishing.

Directly ajacent to Shipyard this shopping and dining plaza is easy access for beach fashion, souveniers and unique dining opportunities. The Bride recommends visiting The Island Fudge Shoppe and The Ice Cream Cone. Piggly Wiggly grocery store is also available.

Harbour Town of Sea Pines Plantation

On the Sea Pines Plantation, this waterfront shopping and dining district is a popular spot to visit, especially in the evening when locally famous family singer Greg Russel performs. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle for a day pass.

There are plenty of mini golf options on the island but the scenes and varying difficulty of this course make it a favorite for the bride’s family. Afterward you may want to visit the Hilton Head Diner next door for a treat!

Kayak, Canoe or Paddle Board in the Marshes

There are many beautiful launch points along Broad Creek river for the adventurous who want to explore the wild life and marshes up close. The Saltmarsh Paddle Company operates from the same outlet out of the Old Oyster Factory (the reception venue).
