On a snowy winter night in Frisco, a group of Amanda’s college friends from Palm Springs happened to be visiting and staying in an Airbnb just down the road. They were in town for a ski trip, and since their Airbnb was just on the other side of her neighborhood, Amanda and her girlfriends bundled up and made the short walk over to say hello, fully expecting it to be just a quick catch-up with familiar faces. What she wasn’t expecting was that two extra coworkers had joined the trip, one of them being Logan. Amanda and Logan had technically met once before on a ski trip the year prior. It was quick, chaotic, and filled with people. But despite the blur of that weekend, they both remembered each other. Something about that first meeting had quietly stuck. So when they found themselves in the same living room that snowy night, things felt… different. They talked for hours. At some point, conversation turned into two-step dancing in the middle of the living room. Before the night ended, he asked for her number. On paper, it didn’t make much sense. She lived in a ski town surrounded by mountains. He lived in the desert surrounded by palm trees. One had snowstorms, the other had sunshine. But numbers were exchanged anyway. And then something unexpected happened, they never stopped talking. Texting turned into all-day conversations (which is saying a lot, considering Amanda is famously bad at answering her phone). But somehow, she never missed a message from Logan. Conversations turned into ski trips. Tahoe. Telluride. Park City. Snowed-in weekends that left plenty of time to get to know each other beyond small talk. What may have started as “a group trip” slowly started feeling much more intentional. When ski season began to wind down, the built-in excuses to see each other disappeared. So instead of letting distance win, they made a bold decision. Amanda packed up her dog, Koda, and drove 14 hours to Palm Springs. Somewhere in the middle of the Utah desert, she called her grandparents to explain what she was doing. They lovingly suggested she turn around. She politely declined. If it was going to be a disaster, at least it would be a warm one. It was not a disaster. It was easy. Fun. Natural. What was supposed to be a visit turned into more visits. Then remote work stretches in Palm Springs. Then trips to Mexico, Croatia, Ireland, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, road trips across the country, and countless camping adventures. Somewhere between mountain snow and desert sun, they stopped living in separate states and started building one shared life. Eventually, Logan made the move to Colorado permanently. And now, somehow, it feels like he’s always been there with Amanda, with Koda, and with their newest addition, Kenai. What started as a snowy walk down the street turned into a mountain-meets-desert love story neither of them saw coming… but both are very glad they didn’t walk away from.
