Dressy casual attire is recommended. Summer dresses, sport coats/suits with or without tie, sandals, flats, etc. If you're taking the chairlift, flat shoes are highly encouraged. It can also get chilly after the sun goes down, so consider bringing a jacket.
Yes, shuttles will be provided from the Collins Lake Resort, Grand Lodge, and Best Western. They will run round trip to the venue until all guests have made it home at the end of the night. If you're not staying at one of those locations, but are nearby, you can always walk to one of those hotels and hop on the shuttle!
When you get off the chairlift, it is a short walk down a path that winds through some trees to the ceremony site. It is about a 5 minute walk, but we do recommend flat, stable shoes as the path is uneven and downhill.
Children must be at least 6 years old to ride.
The weather will likely be sunny with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-50s. We recommend wearing sunscreen for the ceremony and bringing a jacket for the evening. Some of the reception area is outdoors, and it may get chilly after the sun goes down!
Government Camp is about a 1 hour, 15 minute drive from PDX airport. We recommend renting a car for transportation. It will also give you more flexibility to explore the area.
Alternate shuttle transportation directly to the ceremony site is limited. There will be two shuttles, which will pick up at specific times. Guests who RSVP'd to take the shuttle will be notified of instructions beforehand. Please give priority to guests with small children or those who need extra assistance in getting to the ceremony site. Thank you for your understanding!
When you arrive at the base of the mountain, you will see the entrance to the chairlift straight ahead. The reception tent will be to your left, so you can drop off any gifts or large items there before riding up. There will be a separate line for wedding guests to get on the chairlift; the operator will give you a wristband and help you get on. The chairlift is very slow with scenic views. The operators can also slow it down or stop it to allow you to get on comfortably. No need to worry! It is about a 15 minute ride up, and you will get off at the SECOND stop. Please ride through the first stop and continue on. There will be signs to show you where to exit, and operators can pause or slow down the lift to help you get off, if needed.
Guests will have the option to ride the half-mile Alpine slide from the ceremony site down to the reception. It is a ton of fun, so we encourage you to go along for the adventure if you can! You will ride on a luge-style cart that sits in a cement track. It is very safe, and there is a hand brake to let you control your speed as you slide. Ladies - consider wearing some shorts under your dress! If you prefer, you can also ride the chairlift back down the mountain. Or, take a shuttle.
Please do not rely on Uber or Lyft as a primary mode of transportation. Although you can likely take an Uber from Portland up to Mt. Hood, there is no Uber/Lyft service up on the mountain, so we don't recommend relying on that for your transportation needs, especially to get back to Portland if you have a flight to catch. We suggest renting a car, which will also allow you to come to the Welcome Party at Timberline and explore the area!
Please contact Ally and Tom directly if you have any other questions. We are more than happy to help and provide more details!
