Tom was a co-resident in the general dentistry program with Ally's sister, Stephanie, at the VA hospital in Richmond, VA. He was heading out to San Francisco for some interviews, and Stephanie suggested he stay with Ally to save some money on the trip. Tom always knew in his heart that he was meant to live on the West Coast, but little did he know he would also find his love there! Tom and Ally hit it off right away and both knew within the few short days they spent together that they had something special. After a short time, they were dating and making it work long distance, across the country. In July, 2015, Tom moved to San Francisco with Ally. Then, in July, 2016, they moved to Portland, Oregon together, which is where they've chosen to put down roots. We're looking forward to having you all join us in the place we now call home - the beautiful Pacific Northwest - this summer for our wedding at Mt. Hood!
Since Tom and Ally had been working on designing a custom engagement ring together, it was a challenge for Tom to surprise Ally with a proposal, but he managed to pull it off in February, 2017. The plan was to hike up to Mt. Davidson in the Columbia River Gorge and propose at the top of the mountain, however, the rough winter meant the hike was still covered in snow and ice. So, there was a change of plans to go on a nice hike at the scenic Sauvie Island in North Portland. It was a brisk, clear morning and Tom and Ally were joined by their friend, Chad. His role as "third wheel" threw Ally off the scent, but in fact, he was really there to capture the moment. Tom proposed next to the river on Sauvie Island with a heartfelt speech - a little nervous and down on one knee. Of course, Ally excitedly said "YES" and they celebrated with some beers out in nature in true Portland fashion. It was a perfect morning! They spent the rest of the day at one of their favorite spots, McMenamins Edgefield, and celebrated with friends, food, and drinks!
