Love shopping local? Downtown Montpelier has a number of locally owned stores that are fun to peruse. There's a variety of restaurants (for Vermont) here as well if you want to shop and then lunch. Looking for a walk in the area, head to Hubbard Park or North Branch Trails. Rent some bikes from Onion River Outdoors and go for a ride. Or zip up to Wrightsville Reservoir for a swim/paddle/picnic.
Check out the Allee's stomping grounds and paddle with Vermont Canoe and Kayak a 4.5 or 6-mile stretch of the Lamoille River. Grab sandwiches at the nearby Cupboard Deli, Burritos at the Taco Truck, and/or snag a Creemee at the Maple Outlet.
There are lots and lots of hiking options. If you're looking for a harder hike, head to Hunger Mountain, Camel's Hump, Mount Mansfield or Sterling Pond from some classics. Bolton Valley offers some nice views as your head up the ski trails to the fire tower. For something more mellow but still with nice views, check out Wu Ledges in Waitsfield or Mount Philo in Charlotte.
There are also lots of place to bike around here! For flatter routes, we like the Burlington Bike Path and the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. For hillier gravel rides, there are a lot of great routes riding from Montpelier and several from Richmond (where we live as well). For mountain biking, head to Saxon in Essex, Cady Hill in Stowe, Perry Hill in Waterbury or Cochran's in Richmond. So many options! Give a holler if you need help narrowing down.
Explore the shops in downtown Burlington, or head down to the Waterfront Park for views of the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain.
