FAQs

Question

Which airline do you recommend for this trip?

Answer

For economical flights, I recommend Volaris or Viva Aerobus — they’re similar to flying Frontier in the U.S. If you prefer a more traditional airline with additional amenities, Aeromexico is a great option, though it tends to be closer in price and service to United or Delta.

Question

What are flight prices to Mexico right now, and when is the best time to book?

Answer

Currently, flight prices are ranging between $300–$500. I recommend checking periodically if you are not ready to purchase now, tools like Google Flights and the Hopper app can track fares and notify you when prices drop. If you see flights under $300, that’s a good time to buy! Sometimes fares will dip as low as $200 about 90 days before international travel but this is not a guarantee. However, generally, the best deals are around $250.

Question

What will the accommodations and hotel prices be like for the trip?

Answer

The hotel in Mexico City and shuttle pick-up spot will be the Hilton in Reforma, where the group booking rate is approximately $322 per room. We encourage guests to group together and share rooms to help with costs. While the Hilton will serve as the central meeting point for shuttles and our Thursday night bar hop, there are also many other nearby hotels at lower price points. If you’d like recommendations, feel free to reach out to the bride or groom to share options that fit different budgets. Our second hotel is the Santa María Regla, a smaller historic property with limited availability. Rooms there will range between $80–$100, and room assignments will be coordinated to make booking easier. Guests are welcome to arrive on Thursday to join the bar hop, or on Friday if they prefer. Please note that all Friday arrivals must be at the Hilton Reforma by 10:00 AM if they wish to take the shuttle with the group. Hotel booking links are not available yet, but we’ll update everyone once they’re ready to ensure rooms are secured smoothly.

Question

How should I pay for things while in Mexico?

Answer

In Mexico City, most restaurants, bars, and hotels accept credit cards and Apple Pay, so you’ll have no trouble paying that way. However, I recommend carrying around 1,000 pesos in cash for shopping at local markets in the city or those in Huasca. You can get pesos by withdrawing from an ATM at the airport or at the Hilton hotel lobby, or by exchanging U.S. dollars at the airport. Currently, the exchange rate is about 18.60 pesos per dollar, so 1,000 pesos is roughly $53, though rates can change.

Question

Will I run into language barriers while in Mexico?

Answer

Most tourist areas in Mexico City and Huasca are English-friendly, so you should be able to get by easily. However, it’s a good idea to have a translator app on your phone just in case you need additional help.

Question

What are the breakfast and dining options at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma?

Answer

The Hilton Mexico City Reforma has several on-site restaurants. El Cardenal serves traditional Mexican and Colonial dishes made from farm-to-plate ingredients. Los Dones offers both buffet and à la carte meals, perfect for breakfast or any other meal. Sonora Grill Prime is available for those looking for a more upscale dining experience. Additionally, there are casual dining options just across the street from the hotel, including places serving tacos, burgers, and wings.

Question

What are our breakfast and dining options at the hotel and in Huasca de Ocampo?

Answer

Breakfast will be included with your stay at the hotel in Huasca de Ocampo, served as a breakfast bar in the hotel’s private patio for a relaxed, scenic start to your day. Guests are also welcome to explore the town for breakfast and lunch. Taxis can be arranged through the hotel for approximately $3–$10, offering a chance to enjoy local cafes and street food in the charming town center. Additionally, the hotel has a restaurant available if you’d like to dine on-site during the day on Saturday.

Question

What’s the weather usually like in Huasca de Ocampo?

Answer

The weather is typically mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures in the high 70s°F and cooler evenings in the 50s°F.
