Situated near downtown, Mount Bonnell is a must on your to-do list. you can see the beautiful town lake and the million-dollar houses around it from a bird-eye view. you can also see downtown skyline. Don't let the name fool you, the "mount" is not a challenge hike. it will take you about 5 minutes to walk to the peak.
You should not skip the beautiful Texas Capitol building. It's free entry to public. You can learn a lot about Texas history, if you go with a guide. You can also just walk around and admire its beautiful architecture design on your own.
Our most famous party street, AKA "dirty six" . Recommend you to check out the Driskill hotel, and get some coffee/brunch at it's cafe 1886 Cafe& Bakery, our favorite bar/beer garden/ bakery called Easy Tiger and my favorite bar Pete's Dueling Piano Bar. Of course, walk into any bar and club on 6th you will have a blast.
It's a massive massive grassy park, and an off-leash dog park. Best for picnic and dog watching.
Rainy Street is Austin best kept secret. You can find a bunch of unique hipster bars, each has the loveliest & coziest patio.
if you want to spare $2-3, you get to swim in the most fresh spring water! If you don't have the change, you can walk to Barton Spring Park from Zilker park, and jump into Barton Spring for free. You can also pet the swimming doggies for free. Definitely check out the food trucks along Barton Spring Rd.
The boat rental is on Lake Travis. If we have warm weather in March, you can rent party barge and speed boat and have a blast on the lake.
You can rent paddle board and canoe from a few locations on the town lake (AKA ladybird lake). It's actually a fun activity for both warm and cool weather.
Amazing view of the entire Lake Travis...however, lower your expectation for food, raise your expectation for waiting time.
One of our favorite spot in Austin. The cafe sits right by the town lake, with a giant outdoor patio. Good coffee, good dessert, good view.
March is flower season. Ladybird Johnson park is a bit of a drive down south, but you will see beautiful flowers, totally worth the ticket price.
the items they sell: Boozy Ice cream; Ice cream + Booze; Boozy ice cream + more booze.
Dude! You just have to go try it! Don't skip the queso, other wise you will miss the best queso in your life.
two words: Loaded. Donuts. Nuff said.
This little block has our favorites! Austin East Cider is so good, and you can get a flight for $8. Next door is a beer tasting room Friends & Allies. The food truck sits on this lot has some amazing food that you can mench on while enjoying your tasting. We discovered this little area when we start to go to ABP (Austin Bouldering Project). The bouldering/climbing gym is like an adult playground. We highly recommand!
Many people think it's the best BBQ in town. Therefore, you will need to go at 5 AM to wait in line for their 11 AM opening. If you are a self-claimed foodie, you cannot miss this experience. If you are OK with your non-foodie status, go to La BBQ and join the 1 hour waiting. IF you just want some BBQ and hate lines, here are some good options: Black, Stile Switch, Saltlick... Frankly, bad BBQ is a crime here, so most of the BBQ joints are pretty amazing for non-Texans.
2nd best BBQ, 1 hour waiting
