Our Love Story

Kaleb and Alice met in the summer of 2019, right before their final year of undergrad. Like any classic UCSB love story, it usually contains a few elements such as: meeting through mutual friends, at a party, in class, or on an app. For these two, like stars aligning to form a constellation, it took all four for them to finally meet and fall in love. Their first encounter was at a mutual friend’s birthday party. That night, Alice noticed Kaleb mixing a cocktail for himself, while Kaleb noticed Alice wearing a beanie that said MEOW. He thought she was intriguing; she thought he was attractive, but lonely making drinks by himself. Drawn to each other, Alice made the first move, asking, “What are you drinking?”. The conversation flowed easily, they exchanged Snapchats, and then parted ways. They next crossed paths on the 5th floor of the library, where Alice spotted Kaleb again and asked what he was studying. It turned out they were both taking the same organic chemistry lab that summer. Alice, struggling in the class, noticed Kaleb was very intelligent, so she roped him into study sessions. Who knew that studying organic chemistry would spark real chemistry? Between taking a class together, study sessions, and summer parties, Kaleb and Alice slowly began to fall for each other. When the class ended, Alice returned home to San Francisco while Kaleb stayed in Isla Vista. Both were focused on their futures—Alice preparing for graduate school and Kaleb aiming for pharmacy school. Neither expected to meet their soulmate during their last year of college, and neither felt they had time for a relationship. But distance only made their bond stronger. Through countless Snapchat messages that summer, they realized they liked each other too much to not take a chance. And so, it took a mutual friend, a birthday party, a class, and a little help from Snapchat for Kaleb and Alice to find each other, six years later, at the altar.
