How we Met

It was always you...

Brodrick and I met in our hometown of Garden City, Kansas when we were kids. We both attended the same elementary school, Florence Wilson. I was in Kindergarten and he was in First grade. In his words, “We met back in 1995 when I was wearing suits for school pictures. I met you when I got to pick who I wanted to read to, and I chose you. It was love at first sight in the eyes of a 6 year old.” Years ago, Brodrick and I were looking through his Florence Wilson Yearbook and we noticed that he had circled my picture in pink; I was his crush. It was destined from that moment on, we just didn’t know it at the time. Not to mention, his mother and I share the same birthday, May 3rd.

The Proposal

6.20.2020

Brodrick and I went home for Father’s Day weekend. He had told me that we were going to have a BBQ at his grandma's house the night before Father’s Day to celebrate the men in both of our families. This was going to be the first time both of our families would get together for a family function. After we arrived at his grandmas house, we all went outside to the neighbors backyard to take family pictures. His aunt directed Brodrick and I to go first and then noted that his kids would join in with us at a later point. I noticed that all of our family members whipped out their phones to take pictures of us and I made the statement, “Wow I feel like a celebrity right now.” I had no idea what was about to happen. All of a sudden Brodrick’s son, Blake, quietly said, “Time”. Brodrick swiftly moved me over to the side and got down on one knee and asked me the words I had been waiting to hear for so long, “Will you marry me”? My mouth literally fell open and I was left speechless. After I processed everything that was happening...and picked my jaw up off of the floor (ha ha), I enthusiastically responded, "YES"! Brodrick planned this night out perfectly. He planned our engagement date for the night of 6/20/2020 @ 6:20 p.m. in our area code of 620 and even had a big sign made for us that said, “She Said Yes!” The funny thing is that Brodrick and I had been talking about marriage, but, he had convinced me to think it wasn’t going to happen for at least another year... so I was in complete shock when he got down on one knee. Brodrick and I have created a beautiful and fun life together. We balance each other out so well and I am so excited to become his wife and partner and even more excited to become a bonus mom to his wonderful children. I look forward to our future and to growing our beautiful family.
