David learned the hard way to never be late to a party. After showing up over an hour into David and Alex's mutual best friend Tessa's Friendsgiving in 2012, he was graced with only five amazing minutes of conversation with Alex before she had to leave for other obligations on a Saturday night (remember when Alex used to go out?). He'd have to wait another year to reconnect with her -- again at a Tessa party. Thankfully he arrived at the birthday party on time, and he bonded with Alex over a shared love of cider and spent three and a half hours in nonstop conversation. A late night kiss led to a first date on a roof with pizza and a sampler menu of ciders, which led to a month of consecutive Thursday night dates, which led to the ultimate sign of Alex's commitment to David: a New Year's Eve where she ditched Jared, Julia, and Goose just before midnight to travel to ... Brooklyn! After six years of love, wonderful times, and lots more cider, David finally found the perfect setting to propose: in front of thousands of Alex's beloved penguins returning from sea to say "hello" at sunset in Australia. Hopefully they can make it to the wedding, too.
