It all began in 2015 on a balcony in Kampot, Cambodia. Court was casually hanging her bikini to dry at a hostel, while Alex was busy picking his jaw up off the floor. We kept crossing paths during our travels, exchanging only the occasional shy “hey”—neither of us bold enough to strike up a real conversation. Unbeknownst to Alex, he had already earned the nickname “Man Bun.” It wasn’t until we landed at an all-you-can-drink bar in Vietnam that he finally found the courage to say, “Hey, you’re that fit American!” (Not his best line… but somehow, it worked!) A few weeks later, Alex was gearing up for a road trip along Australia’s East Coast with his best mate, Pat. When he found out Pat’s girlfriend was tagging along, he spontaneously asked Court if she wanted to join too. To this day, we’re not sure what convinced her to travel with three Brits in a campervan for a month—but she said yes, and the rest is history. We ended up doing farm work together, moved to Sydney and lived the backpacker-corporate life for six months, then relocated to New Zealand, where we lived in a converted van in a surf town for another six months. After adventuring through the Philippines, we eventually made our way to Canada and settled in with Court’s family. After meeting the amazing Fox crew, we headed west—and that’s where we’ve spent the last eight years: finding Nala (our now 5-year-old adventure pup), and buying a teeny tiny slice of paradise (condo) in Whistler, BC. Along the way, we’ve road-tripped through California, surfed in Mexico, worked a few great jobs, worked a few terrible jobs, camped all across BC, melted our hearts as we welcomed new nephews and a niece, made friends that feel like family, and most recently, worked remotely from a beach in El Salvador. On November 25, 2023, after years of (gentle) persuasion, Alex proposed on a beach in El Salvador with Court’s grandmother’s ring (mom's side). When calling family to share the news, we learned that November 25 was the day that Court's Papa, Jim, proposed to her Nana (dad's side) back in 1961, making the day even more special. Now, we’re stepping into the next chapter of this wild, beautiful journey—and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than on a beach, in the sun, with surf… and surrounded by the people we love most.
