Like all great love stories...

It all began in 2010 with pong and EBA's chicken tenders. It took four years after that first night for Alex and Aly to reconnect in Boston in June of 2014, the month before Alex moved back to Hanover for business school and Aly moved to New York City. Aly was hesitant about a long distance relationship, but Alex persisted. In the month that followed their move, Alex convinced Aly to meet him in Denver, one of the stops on his cross-country road trip, and he even visited her in his least favorite city on Earth, NYC. Yet, it wasn't official until Alex returned from his Dartmouth Outing Club trip in August and informed Aly, "I told everyone you're my girlfriend. Hope that's ok!" It was definitely ok.

The Proposal

On the last Saturday in April, Aly woke up thinking she'd have to spend the day at work. As she was leaving, Alex casually mentioned, "There might be a surprise for you today. Just go with it." Always up for a surprise, Aly drove away with giddy excitement. Before she could leave their neighborhood, however, their closest friends stood waiting, blocking the exit. Following their instructions, she turned around for home and was greeted by Alex in their backyard, the trees of Patapsco State Park his backdrop. He got on one knee and Aly said (shouted) "YES!" With your typical proposal, that'd be the end. Alex isn't your typical guy. First, CJ popped out from behind a tree, camera in hand, having flown all night from San Francisco. Shortly after, Lauren and Lizzie burst into the kitchen, and Krysten called in from London. The surprises didn't stop there. Everyone made their way to Alex and Aly's favorite Ellicott City restaurant for brunch, and her three best friends jumped up! (Aly's enthusiasm may have made a baby cry. Oops!) From there, a party bus took everyone to a local winery, and the group ended the night with burritos and a suburbs sleepover. Family, friends, and burritos. Aly couldn't stop smiling, but Alex tends to have that effect on her.
