Getting to Banff From Calgary

The closest airport (and major city) to Banff National Park is Calgary. Attributable to it's secluded, serene environment, Banff is about an hour and a half drive from Calgary along the Trans Canada Highway. On the ride, be on the lookout for wildlife and the specially designed wildlife over/underpasses! (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/digital-nomad/2013/08/23/the-alberta-story-wildlife-crossing-in-banff/) If you do not want to rent a car, the Banff Airporter is a reliable and relaxing way to get from Calgary to Banff. Since Banff is a National Park there is a small fee associated with entry that is covered by the cost of the Banff Airporter shuttle. Should you rent a car, you can expect to be charged upon entry to the park. The fees are less than 10 CAD per adult. (https://www.banff.com/banff-helpers/banff-park-fees/)

Staying in Banff

Since Banff is a National Park, real estate can only be purchased by those whose primary objective is to live and work in the community. For this reason, rentals and Airbnb may be hard to come by so we recommend staying at one of the hotels in town. Most activities within the town of Banff are within walking distance along Banff Avenue. The hotels we've recommended here are within 2 blocks of the wedding reception and the majority of shops, restaurants, etc. While the town of Banff is easily walkable, if you plan to ski, your lift tickets will include a free shuttle ride to any of the 3 nearby mountains. (Our personal favorite is Lake Louise.)

As an alternative to renting a car, book a round trip shuttle transfer to/from Calgary and Banff. The Banff Airporter will drop you off and pick you up directly from your hotel.
