Our Love Story

Alec and Olivia met on August 17th, 2019 in Hunt Hall at UNC Charlotte. It was Alec's first night at college and Olivia's first night back. Olivia and her roommates decided to knock on doors to meet new people and invite them to hang out in the lounge. No one wanted to leave their suites. "Well, this is lame," Olivia said. "These people are boring! Let's just go to the lounge. Bring the Oreos!" "Wait, let's just knock on one more door!" her roommate said. This was Alec's door! Soon, Alec and his three roommates came to lounge. Alec and Olivia got to talking and couldn't believe how much they had in common: "Your mom's in nursing. My mom's in nursing! Your dad worked in sales? My dad worked in sales. You have dogs? I have dogs. You were born in NJ and moved South?" "Me too!" "You're Italian-American. I'm Italian-American. You have three siblings? I have three siblings!" They went on like this for awhile and eventually decided to exchange phone numbers. As the school year started, Olivia would walk past Alec's door every day on the way to an 8:00 class and realized they were walking in the same direction, so she said, "This is silly! Let's just walk together." They got to know each other really well during this time, and over the course of the next few weeks, Olivia's roommates and Alec's roommates all became close friends and ate most dinners together, had movie nights, game nights, and prank wars. Olivia would constantly drag Alec to all of the school events and cheer him up on bad days by playing Super Mario Bros on the Wii and watching Impractical Jokers. By the time the new semester started in 2020, Alec and Olivia were inseparable. Every funny thing they saw on campus had to be shared with each other. Both couldn't wait to spend time together. They just kept finding more things in common! Finally, Olivia asked Alec out on February 7th, 2020, suggesting that they get on the train and just explore all the stops worth exploring. Alec insisted on buying Olivia dinner when they stopped in NoDa. By the time they got to Uptown Charlotte, they were freezing! Both wanted to hold hands, but they were also both hesitant to make the first real move. Imagine it not working out, and then they had an awkward 40 minute train ride back to campus! So instead, Olivia grinned and offered Alec one of her mittens. "I don't think that's going to fit my hand, Liv," he laughed, and grabbed her hand. They walked hand-in-hand all over Uptown. On the train ride home, Olivia rested her head on Alec's shoulder, and he rested his head against hers. By the time they got back to Hunt Hall, neither one of them wanted the night to end. "How about we both go get comfy in pajamas and then meet back at your place in 20 minutes or so?" Olivia suggested. Back at Alec's dorm, they randomly decided to watch Big Fat Liar. (Why? Because it's a classic, obviously.) After the movie, they were about to watch That '70s Show, when Olivia said, "Wait, before we watch another show, I need to say something: I think we could be more than friends. You're my favorite person to be around, and I just want to be with you. How do you feel?" Alec leaned back into the couch, stared at the ceiling, and didn't say anything. "Okay, can you please say something?" Olivia asked. "Because I just put myself out here, and it's starting to feel awkward." "I honestly don't know what to say," Alec said. "Is this real life? I've been hoping you would see me for awhile now, and I honestly can't believe this is happening." The two of them then started talking about all the times they wanted to share how they felt. Eventually, they said goodnight. One month later they got sent home from school due to Covid and began a long distance relationship. Later, they met each other's families and finished school. They moved in together in 2022 in Cary. 4 years later on Jan. 3rd, 2026, Alec proposed at Apex Community Park, and of course Olivia said, "Yes!"
