Ponte Vecchio, “Old Bridge”, is a famous bridge near Palazzo Pitti in Florence with a fascinating history and stunning views of the Arno River. The bridge was built during Roman medieval times (1345) and features some beautiful stonework from this era. The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence that survived World War II. Today it is inhabited mainly by gold jewelry shops - Florence is well-known for its 18 carat gold.
