Bridesmaid
Liliana (Lilypad) Aldape is Alyssa’s sister-in-law, wife to Alyssa’s favorite brother, Teacher of bright 6th graders, Volleyball and Basketball coach to the third best 8th grade girls C-Team in San Antonio’s NISD (Go Jaguars!), and dog-mom to three rescues. Lily enjoys gardening and leaving it all out on the dance floor. When “La Chona” comes on you better get out of her way. She is very happy for the Bride and Groom and can’t wait to celebrate with them!
Bridesmaid
Ashley and Alyssa met when Alyssa was at McAfee and Ashley was working for Baptist Women in Ministry. Alyssa quickly became one of Ashley’s favorite humans when she realized that they shared the same love for irreverent humor and 90’s worship music. (Jaci Velasquez goes hard, OK!) Ashley just moved back to Atlanta to serve as the Interim Pastor, Christian Education and Community Outreach at Oakhurst Baptist Church. She lives her best friend, Gilbert the Goodest Dog. Her go-to karaoke songs are “Strawberry Wine” by Deanna Carter or “Shoop” by Salt ‘n Pepa, depending on the vibes. Before seminary she went to Bama, where she mostly learned to take tequila shots without wincing. Ashley adores Alyssa, and the entire Aldape fam. She can’t wait to stand by Alyssa on this day.
Bridesmaid
Katie is the groom’s sister and is thrilled to be gaining Alyssa as a sister. She is also the mother of the flower girl, Lake! Katie lives in the DC area with her husband Matt, baby girl and lab mix Teddy (who is also a big fan of the bride and groom). She’s a TV reporter and loves hiking and trying cocktails. She can’t wait to meet everyone!
Bridesmaid
Lauren Zehyoue is originally from Mesquite, TX and works as a Communications Director for the Kairos Center, an anchor organization of the Poor People’s Campaign. As a Spelman College graduate, she’s drawn to beautiful, brilliant women which is why it’s no surprise she and Alyssa became fast friends in 2016 when Alyssa moved to D.C. and Lauren was graduating with her Masters in Political Communications. After what seems like a lifetime of margaritas, theological conversations, and bonding over Netflix shows, Lauren is ecstatic to stand beside Alyssa as she marries Nick– and even more excited for the bachelorette party 😏.
Bridesmaid
Courtney met Alyssa one fall evening at Right Proper Brewery. Alyssa was there with some fellow that Courtney went to law school with (Nick was it?). It was love at first sight, for Courtney at least. Fast friends, Courtney and Alyssa’s connection has only grown over fun summer days at Deep Creek Lake and through dark winters weathering the hardships of the pandemic. Courtney lives in Washington, DC with her husband, also Nick, and her two cats, Harriet and Ella. She is an attorney that does everything from defending democracy in the courts to helping entrepreneurs with cannabis licensing.
Bridesmaid
You know how when someone says “You two should meet, you would be friends?” It usually doesn’t work out, but this time it did! Courtney Stamey met Alyssa at a work conference and they became fast friends (probably over some craft beer and good food). Along with their friend, Anna, they became the “Lady Pastors” and have shared clergy woes, funny jokes, and all of life’s weird twists and turns. Courtney has never met Nick in person, but met his parents when she officiated a mutual friend's wedding. Courtney is a Baptist pastor in Mississippi. She and her husband Michael, have two pups named Dallas and Basil. They love the outdoors, and are obsessed with disc golf.
Best Man
Michael Tuttle drew the short straw and will be serving as the best man. Michael has known Nick for the past 25 years, having grown up as neighbors. Fun fact, they are the only two Chevy Chase kids to catch Lyme disease in the mid 2000’s. Michael currently lives in Washington DC, and in his spare time, he enjoys cooking, hiking, and talking about how he used to be a decent runner. Pictured from left to right is Zimbabwe Nibbler, Michael, and Sadie José
Groomsman
Eduardo (Eman) Aldape has known Alyssa for over 30 years. Of which they’ve remained good friends and siblings. Along with traveling the world and ghost writing jokes for Alyssa, Eduardo has always been Alyssa’s mentor when it comes to good music, movies, and TV shows. When he isn’t stuntin’ at weddings or working (on excel or something), Eduardo can be found enjoying a nice glass of white claw and relaxing with his wife and several hundred rescue dogs. Eduardo is excited to be gaining Nick as a brother-in-law and was even nice enough to postpone the cultural initiation of Mexican Wrestling for up to one year to allow sufficient time for Nick to train. 11/12/23, Nick. Be ready.
Groomsman
Nick Bernard (aka Tall Nick, Better Nick, Nick 1) is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. He moved to DC to go to law school, where he met Nick Schaufelberger (aka Little Nick, Lesser Nick, Nick 2) playing poker in a dorm room. Neither of them were very good at poker, but they became friends anyway. After graduating and taking the bar, the Nicks went to Greece, where they hiked Mt. Zeus and drank homemade raki from plastic bottles. Following a brief interlude back in Utah after law school, during which Schaufelberger visited so they could hike along a cliff in Zion National Park, Nick B. returned to DC, where he lives with his partner, Courtney, and their two cats, Harriet and Ella.
Groomsman
Marcelo has known Nick since law school. Marcelo is currently maintaining his innocence while incarcerated at Central Maryland Correctional, but is expecting to be paroled before the Big Day!
Groomsman
Dan met Nick at the end of 8th grade, but it was a chance finding of a pair of lost glasses the following year that would cement a friendship that would last through today. Born in Chicago but raised in the DC area, Dan has regretfully absconded to the Frozen North, Ottawa to begin a new life with his wife.
Groomsman
Bill Visone is Nick’s former law school roommate. Though assigned at random, they chose to stick together for all three years as they braved the untold horrors of law school hand in hand. Their room was a sanctuary filled with a lot of joy and laughter, and very little cleaning and studying. While he is currently living the glamorous life of a celebrity, Bill is happy to take time out of his busy schedule to serve as a groomsman for Nick’s big day. When he’s not walking red carpets, Bill is a prosecuting attorney, so he expects everyone will be on their best behavior at this wedding. In his free time, Bill enjoys wasting his summers watching the Mets lose baseball games, and his winters watching the Jets lose football games. He is currently settled down in scenic New Jersey with his very loving Italian family, his very patient girlfriend Katie, and their very energetic golden retriever Bailey.
Groomsman
Andrew met Nick during the 1st year of law school, eagerly answering the questions of their Biden-loving professor. His enthusiasm aged like a fine Greek wine while their friendship blossomed like the German state in the late 19th century. Andrew joins the cast of lawyers hired to represent Nick at his wedding. Andrew was born in St. Louis and lives in DC with his wife, Blue, and cat, Suleiman. Andrew kind of likes baseball.
Officiant
Brett and Carol wondered what amazing person would be able to match Alyssa’s level of delightfulness. Then they spent a weekend with Nick, who put their minds at ease. Brett is proud to have been Alyssa’s preaching professor at McAfee School of Theology before moving to Brooklyn, NY to pastor Plymouth Church. Carol is the editor of Reflections, a devotional guide that has proudly featured Alyssa’s writing. The Youngers are excited about officiating the ceremony for this remarkable couple.
