Travel Reminders
(1) Passports: must be valid for at least six months after your date of departure. Plan for 6-8 weeks if you need to renew, or 2-3 weeks if expedited for a fee. (2) Currency: allow for up to three weeks for delivery if ordered through your bank. Note that many credit cards waive foreign transaction fees, but remember to notify them of your travels. Local ATMs often impose withdrawal fees, but offer some of the best exchange rates. (3) Power adapters: European travel plug adapters are best purchased in advance. A 2-prong adapter will be your safest bet. (4) Tipping: only for exceptional service and even then, 10-15% is most appropriate.

Getting Here
From Rome: For guests that are driving, Pienza is 2.5 hours northbound via A1/E35. Alternatively, guests may take a 50-minute flight or a 1.5 hour high-speed train into Florence. The rail station, Rome Termini, is a 30-minute train ride from the airport. From Milan: For our guests that are driving, the town is 4.5 hours southbound via A1/E35. Alternatively, guests may take a train from Milano Centrale to Florence in just under two hours. Milano Centrale is a 50-minute train ride from Malpensa Airport. From Florence: Pienza is a scenic 90-minute drive through the Tuscan countryside, with opportunities to explore some of the world’s oldest and most renowned vineyards along the way. Alternatively, trains are available from Florence to Siena, which is one hour from Pienza by bus or cab. Many hotels in town offer convenient nearby parking.
