Ashawagh Hall was originally built in 1847. Known as the "Little Red School House," it was first operated by the Spring School District. When a new schoolhouse was built in 1909, it was turned over to the Springs Improvement Society, and has since provided a home for the area's artists: Lee Krasner, Carolee Schneemann, and Willem de Kooning participated in exhibitions there; in 1959, MoMA ran drawing classes; from 1983–2014 it hosted a Writer's Workshops. Ashawagh Hall continues to serve the local community. We've been visiting this area of the East End, known as Springs, since our relationship began. In the quietude of the “off” season, taking beach walks or hiking through the woods, we shared some of our deepest conversations. 13 years later, the beauty of this region continues to offer us respite, a place to grow together. It’s very meaningful for us to share it with all of you, and to meet at "Ashawagh"— a Mohegan-Pequot word that means "the place where two roads come together."
Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Répondez, s'il vous plaît, by September 8, 2023.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

Plan to arrive at 4pm, though our ceremony will begin at 4:15pm.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Ceremony: Gerard Drive Park Beach is located at the end of a long strip of road. There is a small parking lot at the end of the road, but if you’re comfortable walking please park along the side of the road as you near the end and save the parking lot spaces for those with access and mobility needs. We have a Special Events License with the city, so you can ignore the signs indicating you need a permit to park at the beach. Reception: There is ample parking at Ashawagh Hall, both in an attached parking lot and along the side of the road. Take note of the “No Parking” signs and as long as you avoid these areas you're in a legal spot.

Question

What's the rain plan?

Answer

In the event of rain, we will move our ceremony to Ashawagh Hall, but keep the same timing. We'll make a call and notify guests of any changes to the location by 8 am on October 21.

Question

What's the weather like out East in October?

Answer

With average temperatures in the low-60s, late-October can see highs in the low-70s and lows in the mid-50s. Being located on the water, there is often a crisp wind. We suggest bringing an extra layer or light jacket.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

The reception will include plenty of options for all sorts of diets and allergies. However, if you have special needs or restrictions please email us directly at alanandjosh1021@gmail.com.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Ashawagh Hall has a maximum capacity of 97 people, so unfortunately we cannot accommodate any additional guests.
