A Match Worth the Swipe

Alaina and Nick’s story began the very modern way—on Hinge—where one simple swipe set everything else in motion. Nick was immediately drawn to Alaina’s smile, the kind that hinted at warmth, confidence, and a little mischief. Alaina, in turn, shared her love for trying new restaurants and enjoying a good glass of wine, unknowingly previewing a future filled with shared tables and clinking glasses. Before meeting in person, Nick had one request: a phone call first. It felt old-school in the best way. When the call finally happened, Alaina kicked things off with her very first question: “So… Ohio State football?” That question sealed the deal—and earned Nick a first date at Yard House. That first date didn’t just go well; it multiplied. One date turned into hundreds, filled with new breweries, fun adventures, and eventually a shared life that included their French bulldog son, George, and their black cat daughter, Luna. Somewhere between the laughter, the routines, and the adventures, it became clear this was something special. They knew early on they were meant for each other. Nick learned exactly how to calm Alaina after a long, chaotic day in the newsroom, while Alaina became Nick’s biggest cheerleader, always knowing how to lift him up when he needed it most. Together, they balance and challenge one another in all the right ways—including convincing Nick to travel internationally for the very first time to Copenhagen, Denmark. And while Nick spends his days focused on liabilities as an attorney, he knew this was one risk worth taking. He packed a ring, navigated security and customs, coordinated a photographer, and stood ready in a place neither of them had ever been before. In Copenhagen, at Tivoli Gardens, he asked the question that would make that city—and that moment—forever part of their love story.
