Train
While self-driving is often recommended for exploring rural Ireland, the train-and-taxi combo is a viable option for reaching Kinnitty Castle from Dublin. Step-by-Step Guide: 1). Book your train ticket: Head to Irish Rail (irishrail.ie) to book tickets from Dublin Heuston to Tullamore. 2). Board at Dublin Heuston: This is the main station for services heading west. 3). Travel to Tullamore: Enjoy the roughly hour-long journey, which passes through rural Irish landscapes. 4). From Tullamore to Kinnitty: Once you arrive at Tullamore station, arrange for a taxi to take you the rest of the way to Kinnitty Castle, as it's a short distance away.

- Plan for any kind of weather, no matter the time of year. Irish weather is very unpredictable. Layers are your friend, because it can also be sunny. Do not be surprised if you get all of the seasons in one day. - Bring the right shoes, or a variety of shoes...hiking, mud, dress shoes, etc. - Pack a US to Type G plug adapter. The outlets are different in Ireland (Type G). Also, the U.S. runs on 120 current, and Ireland runs on 230. So even if you use an adapter, you can’t use things like your hairdryer unless they’re “dual voltage.” Many small appliances these days are, but make sure to check yours-It should say somewhere on either the device itself or a tag.

This is both the wedding venue and where I am blocking out rooms for guests. Below are a couple more options to rest your head nearby. Not too many choices, though! The castle would be your best bet. More information to come/ask me. We're spending a few days in Dublin before hand, then heading to The Castle on October 9th, then leaving The Castle October 14th (so we have a buffer day). Feel free to leave the 13th, or arrive on the 10th or 11th (wedding day is the 12th). So, Heath and I will stay at the castle for 5 nights total. We won't get settled until the evening of the 9th, and don't want to be rushed. Please don't feel pressured to stay 5 nights. If I were a guest, I would probably stay 4.

Option if you did not want to stay at castle. "Experience a warm Irish welcome at Ardmore Country House Kinnitty, where traditional charm meets modern comfort. Start each day with a freshly prepared breakfast featuring locally sourced ingredients. On arrival, enjoy complimentary tea or coffee with delicious home-baked goods as you settle into the relaxed and welcoming surroundings of our country retreat."

Travel Note
I highly suggest, if you can, to make this trip into a whole holiday, if you are able to. Perhaps stop in Dublin on your way in or out for a few days, as you can make a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher in county Clare, or Giant's Causeway. Another idea is to rent a car and drive to County Kerry, Galway, Cork, County Mayo, etc. You truly get to experience Ireland that way. Another suggestion is to visit another close-by European country/area as part of this trip such as Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, or The UK for examples. You're already across the pond and can take a train or short, inexpensive plane ride.
Travel Note
No visa requirements are necessary at this time for Republic of Ireland.

If you plan on going to The UK, you need this visa: UK ETA Make sure you double check any other visas for travel if you choose to visit other countries.

I used Revolut in Spain last year, which worked great. Several countries in Europe, including Ireland, use Revolut either on your virtual wallet, or you can order a physical debit-type card at no cost. Always a good idea to have some Euro on hand just in case, but most places (especially since Covid) use or prefer digital payment.
