We may visit this castle as a group, depending on if I can get a shuttle or van to schlep us
"The Slieve Bloom mountains form a natural link between the counties of Laois and Offaly, with the highest point standing at 527 metres, providing breath-taking vantage points of the midlands on a clear day!" You can rent mountain bikes at a few places nearby :) "The Slieve Bloom Mountains offer some of Ireland’s most breathtaking and unspoiled walking trails, with routes that showcase the stunning beauty of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. "Immerse yourself in the rich musical heritage of County Offaly with lively traditional Irish music sessions in nearby local pubs. Every last Wednesday of the month, the Slieve Bloom Bar in Kinnitty comes alive with the sound of fiddles, bodhráns, and heartfelt ballads."
"The Chestnut Bar in Birr hosts a weekly session every Thursday night. Join the locals as they play, sing, and share stories late into the night."
I highly suggest, if you can, to make this trip into a whole holiday, if you are able to. Perhaps stop in Dublin on your way in or out for a few days, as you can make a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher in county Clare, or Giant's Causeway. Another idea is to rent a car and drive to County Kerry, Galway, Cork, County Mayo, etc. You truly get to experience Ireland that way. Another suggestion is to visit another close-by European country/area as part of this trip such as Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, or The UK for examples. You're already across the pond and can take a train or short, inexpensive plane ride.
