Things To Do

Quintessential spots in the 'burgh.
Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History

Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History

4400 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Both the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History are located in the same building close to Pitt's campus and are a great way to spend an afternoon. One ticket is good for access to both museums, and there are plenty of nearby restaurants and college-kid haunts within walking distance.

Andy Warhol Museum

Andy Warhol Museum

117 Sandusky St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

The museum consists of five floors and a few interactive exhibits detailing the life and art of Pittsburgh's native pop artist. Prepare to see some soup cans and a lot of colorful celebrity portraits.

Primanti Bros.

Primanti Bros.

46 18th St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

There are several Primanti's ("Per-manny's" in Pittsburghese) locations throughout Pittsburgh, but the cozy joint in the Strip District is the original. The restaurant's main claim to fame is putting French fries on top of the sandwich. In the same area are several new shops and restaurants in the Terminal, located inside the former Pennsylvania Railroad Fruit Auction & Sales Building.

Phipps Conservatory

Phipps Conservatory

1 Schenley Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

An indoor oasis of flowers and plants from all climates. Phipps is located in Schenley Park, which is just a short walk away from Oakland's restaurants and the Natural History & Art museums.

Duquesne Incline

Duquesne Incline

1197 West Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Take the historic trolley up to the Grandview Overlook at the top of Mt. Washington for a great view of the city. Inside the upper station is an area where you can view the machinery in action while the cars go up and down the mountain.

Bicycle Heaven

Bicycle Heaven

1800 Preble Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233

So. Many. Bikes! This unique museum in the North Side is the largest transportation museum in the world dedicated entirely to bicycles. We spent an afternoon here in 2022 and were amazed at how many cool designs and features there were across the thousands of bicycles on display. The museum is free to enter and offers free parking.

Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning

Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning

4200 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260

The Cathedral of Learning is the second-tallest educational building in the world, and inside are classrooms designed in the architectural styles of 31 different countries and regions. (Fun fact: Cory taught a class in the English Room.) The rooms are free to enter on weekdays, but Pitt offers 90-minute paid tours on the weekends. Just taking a quick peek inside the main hall is worth it; the building's gothic revival interior looks and feels just like Hogwarts.
