Abby and Joe met at the combined bachelor/bachelorette party of their friends Kevin Lubelczyk and Julia Rosen in September 2021. They hit it off immediately and spent much of the weekend together at Camp Ojibwa in northern Wisconsin. While there, they discovered not only that they shared a birthday, but also that they lived within 2 hours of each other in Texas (although Joe initially said 45 minutes...). They decided to keep in touch, and within 5 weeks of meeting at camp they had officially entered a "semi long-distance relationship," frequently traveling back-and-forth to visit each other between Austin and College Station, TX. Throughout the next year-and-a-half in Texas they spent countless hours together, met each other's friends, put many miles on their respective cars (maybe a few more on Joe's), learned to share their lives, and fell more deeply in love. In the summer of 2023, Joe matched in Columbus, Ohio, for the internship program that he needed to complete to receive his PhD. Together they moved across the country and set up their lives in a new city. Living together and meeting friends as a team only deepened their bond, and by next summer Joe knew that it was time to ask the big question. So, on a cold November night in 2024, with a few friends hiding in the shadows to take pictures, Joe asked Abby if she would spend the rest of her life with him. When it came to planning their big day, Abby and Joe wanted to bring things "full circle" by getting married in the same setting they met--a summer camp! After touring a couple of different options, they absolutely fell in love with Camp Mataponi, and knew it would be the perfect place to say their vows in front of everyone they love.
