The answers below are stolen from a few different websites that did a good job explaining dress codes. The photo collage at the top of the page is a general idea of the wedding day black tie optional/formal dress code! We encourage you to have fun with your outfits and lean into a fancy evening for the wedding! The ceremony will be outside (chairs will be on the grass) and dinner will be held in a tent that will be sitting on top of a stone patio (dancing will be inside), so floor length gowns may get dirty and tall/skinny heels may be difficult to walk in, neither of which are required! Welcome Party: Dressy Casual Women can wear a summer sundress, above the knee, knee-length, or tea-length dress, slip dresses, a skirt and top, or a nice pantsuit or jumpsuit, styled with wedges/block heels, or nicer flats/dressy sandals. Men should choose to wear dress pants or khakis paired with a collared or dress shirt. (Keeping in mind for shoe options that this will be held in a park with flat ground around the tables/food but also a significant amount of grass to stand in/socialize). Wedding Day: Black Tie Optional/Formal As the wording here suggests, this dress code is slightly less formal than a black-tie wedding. So, a tuxedo isn't required, but can still be worn if preferred (a fun chance to wear that tux in the back of your closet you never get to wear). If opting for a suit, a formal dark suit (suits of any dark color like green/maroon/etc. are also great if that's your style!), button down shirt, and a tie or bow tie are acceptable. For women, floor length gowns are not required (also not necessarily practical given a lot of the event will be outdoors), but it's preferred for you to wear a tea-length/ankle length/long dress, or a dressy pantsuit/jumpsuit.
We're hosting a welcome party on Friday night, and all guests are invited (and encouraged!) to attend! It will be a more relaxed event in one of Stillwater's most beautiful public parks overlooking the St. Croix river, with hosted food (The Parlour Bar food truck), beer, wine, cocktails, and NA beverages. Feel free to dress more casual than the wedding day (see dress code FAQ for details). You're welcome to stay the whole time or just for an hour or two, we just can't wait to get to spend another evening celebrating with you! There is street parking available near Pioneer Park, as well as public parking ramps/lots within a couple of blocks of the park. If you're staying in downtown we recommend walking!
If you plan to drive, there is ample parking available at The Outing Lodge. If you plan to uber, great! You may have a longer wait than you're used to for your uber home at the end of the night, but it shouldn't be too difficult to get one! Taking the shuttle? Please check our "Transportation" page for the schedule - we will have shuttles going to/from Downtown Stillwater (Hotel Crosby, Lora, Lowell Inn, bed and breakfasts, airbnbs, etc. in/around downtown), and the hotels on highway 36 (AmericInn, Country Inn, Stillwater Inn, Quality Inn, or Asteria Inn). The only hwy 36 drop off/pickup point currently is at AmericInn, if you are staying at any hotels on the other side of hwy 36, please let Katie or Brady know ASAP so we can try to arrange a pickup point on that side of the highway.
Welcome to Minnesota! It's a good question and the answer is that we likely won't know until the week of. September is our favorite month in Minnesota weather-wise, but it can also be unpredictable at times. Let's all manifest a beautiful 65-70 degree partly cloudy day, but be prepared for temps anywhere between 55-80 (sorry). Accuweather says the averages for our wedding day are a high of 71 and a low of 50! Saturday events are a mix of outdoor and tent/indoors, we have covered plans if it rains hard, and the tent for dinner has side-walls to protect from rain/cold if needed! The welcome party is in a public park that does have picnic shelters/pavilions.
Due to our venue having a strict maximum cap on the number of guests, only the guest names listed on your invitation are invited to attend. You can also find this information by going to the RSVP section of this website and typing in your name - any guests who are invited with you will be listed there. If your child/children were not listed on your invite/in the RSVP section, know that we love them but we hope you can enjoy a fun weekend out without them!
