Heist opened its doors in 2012, as Charlotte's only Craft Brewpub. Originally brewing on a 10HL German brewhouse, we expanded in 2017, adding 30 barrel production facility. Our original focus was on small-batch beer in the traditional Belgian and German style brews. In 2016, we found our stride, creating the original hazy IPA in North Carolina, CitraQuench'l. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to expand our portfolio, now ranging from hazy IPAs and pilsners to fruited sours and adjuncted stouts. We still make the occasional small batches, which are typically kept in house for pours at both our locations.

Unique venues—especially galleries, warehouses, and breweries across neighborhoods like NoDa and South End—thrive on customization. Start by clarifying vendor restrictions with your venue; some unique spaces have exclusive catering or bar policies, while others allow full flexibility. Ask about layout options early, since non-traditional spaces often feature open floor plans you can reshape with furniture, lighting, and décor.
Charlotte's climate allows for creative hybrid setups: indoor industrial spaces can flow into outdoor areas around Freedom Park or Romare Bearden Park for ceremonies. Request a walkthrough at different times of day to understand natural light, which matters greatly in warehouse and loft venues.
Discuss setup and breakdown timelines, as unique spaces may lack built-in staging infrastructure. Work closely with your photographer and planner to maximize the venue's distinctive character—exposed brick, soaring ceilings, or brewing equipment can become stunning backdrops rather than obstacles.
Unique venues are designed to give you creative freedom—that's often what sets them apart. Most allow significant décor customization, though the level depends on the space itself. A converted warehouse or loft typically offers a blank canvas, while a venue with distinctive architecture (think exposed brick or vintage details) might have built-in character you'll want to complement rather than cover.
Before booking, ask these key questions:
- What décor elements are already included or permanent?
- Are there restrictions on hanging items, lighting, or floral installations?
- Can you bring in outside vendors for design services?
- What's the cleanup responsibility for custom installations?
According to Zola marketplace data, unique venues have a median starting price of $4,500 across the US, which is slightly higher than standard venues. This premium often reflects the flexibility and distinctive features that allow for creative customization. The investment in a unique space frequently means you'll need less décor to achieve your vision since the venue itself becomes part of your aesthetic.
According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, a 100-guest wedding in Charlotte runs $27,200–$40,800. For context, the national median is $25,000, so Charlotte weddings track slightly above that benchmark.
Here's where your budget typically goes:
- Venues: 16% ($5,287)
- Catering: 15% ($4,229)
- Florists: 15% ($4,136)
- Bar services: 12% ($3,383)
- Photography: 12% ($3,182)
- Planning: 11% ($3,001)
- Videography: 10% ($2,810)
Smaller celebrations (50 guests) range from $16,500–$24,700, while larger events (200 guests) can reach $46,300–$69,500. Your actual spend depends heavily on venue choice and catering selections.
Venue capacity should comfortably fit your headcount while leaving room for cocktail space, dancing, and movement. Here's how budget scales with guest count, based on Zola Wedding Cost Index data:
- 50 guests: $16,500–$24,700 total budget
- 100 guests: $27,200–$40,800 total budget
- 150 guests: $37,300–$56,000 total budget
- 200 guests: $46,300–$69,500 total budget
Based on Zola marketplace data, Charlotte venues range from $3,500–$10,000, with a median of $5,500. A venue holding 75–100 people works well for intimate receptions, while 150+ capacity suits larger celebrations. Many Charlotte venues are flexible with layout, so ask how the space adapts to your party size.
