Things To Do

Admittedly, Philly isn't our home base. We met in Boston, and currently live in NYC. However, Sylvia's large Armenian family is based in Philly. Here are some of our recommendations, and we will add more soon.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

1020 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
, (215) 733-0390

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is a must-see in Philadelphia! This unique folk art sculpture garden will amaze visitors of all ages. In the 1960s, a group of artists lead by Isaiah Zagar began tiling South Street covering its walls and streets with trash found throughout the city to create hundreds of vibrant murals. Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens covers various streets throughout south philly along with a few indoor exhibits. Inside, you can see more art and learn about the history of the venue. Once you’ve visited, you’ll notice the same mosaic style on murals and sidewalks throughout the city. This is one of my favorite things to do in Philadelphia with first-time visitors.

The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute

222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103
, 215.448.1200

Franklin Institute is one of the oldest science museums in the country and a fun interactive experience for those with kids or a kid at heart. The Franklin Institute has a ton of hand-on. exhibits, planetarium, mind-maze, and daily science demonstrations. If you're thinking that it's only fun for kids, it definitely a ball for all ages. One of our first dates was at the Boston Children's Museum, because Johnny assumed this was where I worked when I mentioned that I worked at Children's. Naturally, this was where I first learned about his fascination with the Titanic. Our love of science museums continued throughout the years, which led to us taking our engagement photos at the Franklin Institute.

Independence Hall

Independence Hall

520 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

For history buffs, Independence Hall is a must see when coming to Philadelphia. See the rooms where the declaration of independence was drafted, the constitution signed, and where the constitutional convention took place. Free guided and self-guided tours are available daily from 9am-5pm. A great opportunity to see the birthplace of America!
