A wise person once said, “don’t date the intern,” however, when Zoey walked into the PricewaterhouseCoopers office as a new intern the summer of 2016, Luke decided to ditch this philosophy and do what any person would do when pursuing a relationship - invite Zoey to a game of PwC kickball. Ahhh, such a romantic beginning. Zoey was impressed by Luke’s dedication to the game, his willingness to sacrifice his body to get someone out, and his gregarious nature during the “after game festivities”. His ability to play the drinking game ‘flip cup’ after kickball caught her eye and was like nothing she had seen before. After attending a few games of PwC kickball, and Luke graciously buying her cider due to her lack of exposure to good beer, Zoey was convinced, Luke was the kickball man of her dreams (just kidding - she thought they were just friends at this point). Fast forward to September of 2016, when Zoey’s internship with PwC had ended. Luke had a ticket to a Mumford & Son’s concert and decided to invite Zoey to attend. Unbeknownst to her at the time, this day would officially become their anniversary going forward, the day “Zuke” was formed, and Mumford & Son’s earned a special place in their hearts. In the early days of their relationship, Zoey & Luke discovered they had a lot in common, including love for travel, live music, and adventure. This love for adventure was put to the ultimate test the summer of 2017, when Luke first met Zoey's family on a 9 day rafting and camping trip through the Grand Canyon. Zoey’s Dad, Ken, said, “Some Dad’s bring out the shotgun, we used 9 days of physical challenges and a class 4+ white water deluge.” Amazing memories were made on this trip, and Luke passed the Chapman family initiation test. He was welcomed with open arms.
Luke and Zoey vacationed to Kauai with Zoey’s family in December of 2018 and had a date night, where wine was enjoyed, and the sunset was watched on the beach. During this night, Zoey & Luke shared with one another that they both wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. One year later, a dual family (Farris & Chapman) trip was planned to Kauai. Zoey was a little suspicious, but Luke had thrown her off before the trip when a conversation about a ring came up and he acted like he hadn’t put any thought into buying one (guess those poker skills came in handy!). On December 16, 2019, Zoey and Luke had a date night planned to go watch the sunset. Prior to heading out, they were playing frisbee on the lawn outside the condo, when Zoey’s mom suggested she go inside & shower. She stubbornly responded, “Not now, I want to keep playing frisbee”. Alas, in order to not spoil the surprise, Luke agreed to continue playing frisbee for twenty minutes longer, which led to a rushed shower and sprint to see the sunset. Zoey & Luke quickly stopped by the Farris family’s condo to say, “Hi” upon their arrival (Luke’s parents Karen & Doug had landed in Kauai just an hour and a half earlier after navigating flight cancellations and delays en route). Karen (Luke’s mom) slyly slipped the ring into his pocket as Zoey was distracted welcoming the Farris’ to Kauai. A mad dash to get to the same spot from the year before prior to the sun setting ensued. As Zoey & Luke watched the sunset, Luke stated, “Do you remember what we talked about last year when we were here” to which Zoey responded, “Yes” and with that he got down on one knee where she said YES, again. The rest is history!
