How We Started

Zoe and Spencer technically grew up around each other in Gulf Breeze, though they were always two years apart in school. Zoe was in the same class as Spencer’s cousins, the Helms, and occasionally ended up at their birthday parties growing up. It was during these early years that Zoe became aware of Spencer and began referring to him as the “hot cousin.” (Important foreshadowing.) Fast forward to 2021 when Zoe started working at the Gulf Breeze Community Center. On her second weekend shift, she walked in to find the morning staff still there—one of them being Spencer Wirth. Faced with the reality of working with the once-famous “hot cousin,” Zoe handled the situation in the most logical way possible… she avoided talking to him entirely. Spencer, however, kept picking up shifts that overlapped with Zoe’s, slowly trying to get her to say more than a few words. Finally, he made a joke about an older gentleman sitting in the lobby who was very seriously watching football. Somehow, that joke broke the silence and started what would become a very easy and natural friendship. Before long, Spencer and Zoe were spending most of their shifts together. Between helping at the community center and probably spending a little too much time playing partner computer games, they quickly became best friends. Eventually, Spencer decided it was time to make it official and asked Zoe out on their first date at Sidelines on Pensacola Beach. And the girl who once ignored him… said yes.
